The provision is good
Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. They form friendly and affectionate bonds with the childminder and each other. Children are secure in their regular routines. They take responsibility for jobs, such as 'being the leader' and getting resources ready for the day ahead. This gives them a sense of pride and they enjoy regular praise from the childminder.

Babies babble and call out with delight as they join in with activities. The childminder brings stories to life when she shares books with children. Older children comment about what they hear and talk about their own experiences in detail and with a wide vocabulary. n Children follow good hygiene routines and the childminder teaches them why this is important. For example, they enthusiastically sing a song about washing all the germs off their hands as they get ready for their snack. The childminder

explains why they need to drink lots of water on a hot day, and children know they need to wear hats and apply sun cream. n The skilled childminder has a secure understanding of child development. She observes children's learning continually to ensure they make good progress. The

need to do better?
9 August 2022 childminder inspires children's ideas and joins in their pretend play. This supports their imaginations well. Occasionally, however, she over directs the play and does not pick up on children's individual thoughts and ideas to extend their learning further. n The childminder is experienced in childcare and keeps her knowledge and skills up to date, which includes attending a mandatory paediatric first-aid course. She evaluates her practice effectively to make sure that children enjoy good-quality experiences. The childminder intends to continue to build on her skills in the future through further training and research.

For example, she reminds them about the safest ways to go up and down the stairs in her home. They are careful and gain confidence and self- assurance.
