p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children's welfare is not assured at this setting because the childminder does not understand how to keep them safe. Children are often poorly supervised. For instance, babies are placed on the ground in the garden and left alone, while older children ride around on toy cars in the same area. This puts babies at risk from harm.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children enjoy singing and listening to songs with the childminder. However, they do not spend enough time engaging in purposeful play to support consistent progression in their learning. Activities are not well planned or matched to children's abilities. For instance, a planting activity lacks focus and challenge for the older children and does not facilitate toddlers' interest in filling and emptying containers.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Despite the identified weaknesses, children are happy and have formed secure attachments with the childminder and her assistant. Children appear confident as they move between the different areas of the childminder's home. They make choices about their play and generally behave well. However, when minor disagreements erupt, they do not have the support they need to understand their behaviour and learn to interact sociably with each other.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder is unaware that she needs to report any concerns or allegations about herself, her assistant or household members. This means that children's welfare may be put at risk. n The childminder and her assistant do not assess risks effectively, to help ensure children are safe in their home. For instance, the assistant drains vegetables at the sink, while babies sit in their highchairs close by and could be splashed with scalding water. n The supervision of children is inadequate. The childminder and her assistant do not ensure that children are always within sight or sound. During the inspection, children were left alone in the kitchen while food was cooking in the oven and on the hob. This puts children's safety in jeopardy. n The childminder and her assistant have accessed a range of short training courses. However, they do not use new information effectively to improve the quality of the provision. The childminder does not consistently model good

practice. Therefore, her assistant is not learning to improve his professional skills. n Learning experiences are often poorly planned and do not cater for children's individual needs and interests. The childminder does not ensure that children have consistent opportunities to practise and develop new skills. Therefore,

need to do better?
24 May 2022 children do not progress as rapidly as they should. n Children are interested in the resources and activities. However, too often these lack appropriate levels of challenge. Therefore, children's attention is fleeting or their play becomes repetitive. This does not help them to develop good dispositions for learning. n The childminder provides healthy meals and snacks for children and encourages them to be active. Children enjoy being outdoors. They go on outings to parks and play in the childminder's garden. Older children show good physical skills when using the climbing apparatus. n Children receive some encouragement to be independent. For instance, the childminder's assistant provides support and positive praise as younger children learn to climb. This helps them to feel confident and motivated. n Parents give positive feedback on the childminder's provision. They describe the childminder's home as friendly and welcoming. Parents appreciate the

photographs and information that the childminder provides about children's time with her. They are happy that their children go on lots of outings with the childminder. n The childminder encourages children's interest in nature and living things. For instance, children learn how to treat the childminder's pet tortoise and cat with care and respect. The childminder regularly takes children to visit a farm where they enjoy seeing the animals.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
Weaknesses in the childminder's safeguarding knowledge and practice undermine her ability to safeguard children. However, she and her assistant attend safeguarding training and know how to identify and reports signs of abuse in children. The childminder and her assistant both hold valid first-aid qualifications.
