p.1

The provision is good

Children babble eagerly with the childminder, who pleasantly welcomes them. They willingly depart from their parents to the warm, caring childminder. Children form secure relationships with the childminder in this safe and homely environment. The childminder gives children plenty of assurance and cuddles, which help them to settle. Children are keen to learn and play. They bound into the play area, settle quickly and enjoy exploring the activities that are freely available. Children know the routine well. They independently take off their shoes and know where to put them. The childminder shows high expectations for children's development. Children are very happy and easily engage in activities, concentrating for long periods given their age.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well, as the childminder consistently demonstrates positive behaviours through good role modelling. She provides age-appropriate explanations to aid children's understanding. This supports children to regulate their own behaviour.

p.2

The provision is good

Children have daily opportunities to explore their local community. This extends their learning experiences outside the home. They are taken to the park, library and other events. This introduces children to different social interactions with others. Children attentively listen to stories, repeating words and counting. They confidently make the noises of the animals.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder knows the children well. She carefully identifies an appropriate curriculum to support children's learning. This helps to form a strong foundation to succeed and make good progress. She has created an environment, indoors and outdoors, that supports the intent of this ambitious curriculum. However, the childminder does not always implement this curriculum effectively. She does not always focus precisely enough on allowing children more time to think and respond. For instance, when she asks questions, she does not give sufficient time for children to respond. This does not extend their speaking skills as well as possible. n The childminder has established very strong partnerships with parents. They state that the childminder goes 'above and beyond' in caring for their children. Parents comment that the childminder is very 'professional' and 'communicate' everything about their child and their learning. They state their child has 'grown

immensely' in their confidence since they have started with the childminder. n Children enjoy learning about different celebrations, such as Christmas and Chinese New Year. She uses these opportunities to support children to learn about similarities and differences beyond their own experiences. Therefore,

need to do better?

20 June 2022 children consistently deepen their understanding of the diverse world around them. n The childminder shows clear ambition and passion for her role and the future of the setting. She has systems to self-reflect and evaluate her provision. The childminder puts plans in place to make improvements, including attending training to support children's mathematical skills. n The childminder understands that children are all individuals. She ensures that she provides a variety of experiences for children that capture their interests. For example, the children like playing with building blocks. They focus very well and develop strong arms and finger muscles. However, occasionally, the childminder does not encourage children to find solutions to problems and allow them to ask for help when needed. This does not enhance children's critical thinking. n Children have opportunities to make marks and draw. They happily join in

singing, counting, learning about colours and participating in stories. The childminder adds words to young children's babbles to help promote their communication and language development. Children listen well and respond to simple instructions. For example, they point out the different parts of their body when asked. n The childminder effectively supports children's good health and well-being. For instance, they have daily access to her well-resourced garden, with a range of equipment. This helps promote children's physical development. They are encouraged to wash their hands before eating and after being outside. She ensures that children's packed lunches are healthy and nutritious. n Children understand simple rules and boundaries well. This helps them to understand behavioural expectations. As a result, children's behaviour is good.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. She ensures that her knowledge is up to date by attending regular training. The premises are secure and well maintained, which contributes to keeping children safe. The childminder uses daily checks to minimise risks to children's safety effectively. She knows the possible indicators of abuse. The childminder understands the wider safeguarding issues, such as extremism, online safety and neglect. She confidently explains the procedures that she will follow if she has concerns about a child's safety and welfare. She knows what to do if an allegation is made against her or anyone living in her household. She ensures that all adults in her home are suitable.
