The provision requires improvement
Children are settled, secure and happy at the childminder's home. The childminder develops strong bonds with the children in her care. They enjoy a wide range of activities, indoors and outside. Children investigate and explore using all of their senses. For example, they try to build houses for the 'Three Little Pigs' from straw, sticks and bricks. They concentrate for a long time, relative to their ages. Children share and take turns in using resources. For example, they cooperate well as they paint a picture together using sponges and brushes. Children are kind towards each other and polite, saying please and thank you. They take pride in carrying out daily tasks for themselves. For instance, when children prepare to play outdoors, they put on their own waterproof suits. Children keep trying until they succeed and pull up the zips. They find and put on their own shoes. This helps to build children's confidence and self-esteem in preparation for their future learning.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
The childminder has not displayed her registration certificate at her co- childminder's home since she began childminding. She did not notify Ofsted of a change to her last name and her new home address, both of which are required within 14 days. These are breaches of requirements. However, the impact on children's personal development and well-being is minimal.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder does not reflect on the management of her provision to identify important areas for improvement. She does not have a good knowledge of some requirements. As a result, she fails to complete essential leadership responsibilities. However, during the inspection, the childminder contacted Ofsted to begin to address the breaches of requirements. n Parents comment that the setting is 'like a family'. They value the skills that their children learn with the childminder, including their communication and language. Parents are pleased that their children eat healthily and try new foods while in the childminder's care. They feel that the childminder keeps them well informed about their child's routines and development. n Children delight in many exciting learning experiences outdoors. They enjoy playing in the well-resourced outside area. For instance, children develop their fine-motor skills while hooking ducks from a water tray. They have opportunities

to practise their early mathematical language and skills. For example, children pretend to measure with a measuring tape in the construction area and count the bricks in their towers. n The childminder is clear about what she wants children to learn and why they need basic skills. She works in partnership with parents to support their children, for example in toilet training. The childminder monitors children's learning and identifies any gaps in their development, which she swiftly addresses. One

need to do better?
8 June 2022 example of this is that she provides extra support to help young children develop their communication and language skills. All children make good progress, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. n Children's behaviour is good. The childminder has high expectations of children, who are clear about the age-appropriate boundaries set for them. Children follow routines, such as helping to tidy away the toys before going outside to play. The childminder praises children for their efforts, which encourages them to contribute. Children form firm friendships and show good social skills. n Children are eager to listen to familiar stories. They show their pleasure when they join in with the refrains enthusiastically. The childminder pauses to allow children to chime in with words and talks to them about the illustrations. Children demonstrate that they remember the book. This helps them to develop

their vocabulary and early literacy skills. n The childminder takes children on walks into the wider community. They observe nature and find out about the world around them. Children have opportunities to run fast and develop their physical skills, such as when they visit local parks. n The childminder's teaching is good. For example, she asks questions and gives children plenty of time to think and answer. The childminder supports children to solve problems for themselves, such as when they build towers with different colours of plastic bricks to match pictures on the wall. However, the childminder does not identify a programme of professional development to maintain and improve her skills and knowledge.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder's knowledge of safeguarding is secure. She understands her role in keeping children safe from harm. The childminder knows what to do should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps up to date with local safeguarding issues. Although the childminder has not notified Ofsted of changes, for example, to her name, this has had no impact on the children in her care. The childminder has a clear evacuation procedure which is shared with children. Another way in which she helps children to keep themselves safe is when she teaches them to climb stairs and steps with confidence.
