p.2
improvement to be good
Since the previous inspection in April 2022, the child living in the home has continued to make progress. Attendance at school is regular and as a result she has successfully completed several foundation courses. Staff spoke positively of their plans to engage the child in a college course and/or vocational training. These plans are, however, in their infancy and therefore not measurable.
p.3
improvement to be good
The child benefits from knowing the staff well and being cared for by staff who are committed to improving her outcomes. Although there have been times when staff from another of the provider’s homes have been used to cover for sickness, this has not affected the consistency of care.
p.3
improvement to be good
Staff arrange times for the child to meet with her family and friends, and these visits and occasions have increased. For example, a recent trip to a theme park with a group of friends is noted as a success. The child told the inspector about the fun she had and how she captured it on her phone.
p.3
improvement to be good
The child is supported to attend any necessary health appointments and there are clear and helpful plans to support her to develop independence skills.
p.3
improvement to be good
Staff respond well to the child when she is upset. They have a good understanding of her needs and use well-written and clear risk assessments that support her safety inside and outside the home. While the staff have been quick to respond and share concerns with the child’s social worker about a social media incident, some records fail to wholly capture the discussions the staff have had with the child.
p.3
improvement to be good
The child does not go missing or leave the home without permission, and there have been no incidents when the staff have had to use physical intervention. Staff receive regular training and supervision to ensure they remain up to date with practice and procedure in these areas.
p.3
improvement to be good
Staff respond with clear boundaries about what is safe and they look to understand the reasons why the child is upset. As a result, the staff manage the child’s behaviours well. Positive behaviour is constantly promoted and staff use reflective learning strategies that are specific to the child’s needs.
p.3

Inspection report for children's home: 2643362 4 The registered manager has demonstrated the capacity to improve the home since the last inspection. Leaders and the manager have completed regular reviews of practice and procedure and, with the staff team, they have engaged in reflective learning exercises. There is sufficient evidence of progress to meet the requirements made at the previous inspection. As a direct result of the improvements in the leadership and the management of the home, the child living in the home is making progress.
p.4
good
While progress is noted, the manager acknowledges that further time is required to embed the learning that has taken place since the previous inspection.
p.4
good
Some shortfalls were identified during this inspection. These relate to the manager failing to report three notifiable incidents to Ofsted, the child needing greater support to help her to understand how to form healthy relationships, and records needing to better capture the conversations staff have with the child.
