p.1

The provision is inadequate

The childminder has a poor attitude to her own improvement or the quality of the provision that she offers. This has a negative impact on children's learning and development. She has very little understanding of how to keep children safe and is unable to identify the signs and symptoms of abuse. The childminder does not understand the procedures she must follow or how to keep children safe.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder has a poor understanding of how children learn. She offers an extremely limited curriculum that is poorly designed. The childminder does not consider children's individual needs or interests. Most activities are adult-led and, while some are child initiated, these do not offer children any challenge. For example, children independently begin den building with the cushions, but the childminder does not identify opportunities to extend this. As a result, children quickly lose interest and move on to something else.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children who are new to the childminder have settled quickly. They have a good relationship with her and feel safe and secure. They regularly come to her for cuddles. Children respect each other and display good behaviour, but children's play is very basic and with little purpose. Children do not show high levels of engagement or curiosity within their play. This has a significant impact on children's well-being and their learning and development.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder openly expresses that she does not have an interest in improving the quality of her provision for children. She does not wish to attend training or develop her knowledge and skills at this point in her career. Since her last inspection, there has been no improvement or development on the recommendations made. As a result, children are not being supported to achieve their fullest potential while in the childminder's care. n The childminder has very little understanding of the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage (EYFS). The poorly considered curriculum does not meet children's needs. The childminder has no understanding of the areas of learning and the way in which children learn. She does not seek to find out what children know and can do to identify their next steps. As a result, there is a significant impact on children's learning and development. n Children have narrow experiences and are limited in developing their

understanding of people and communities beyond their own. Children do not have the opportunity to recognise and accept each other's differences. As a result, children are not being prepared for life in modern Britain. n The childminder is unable to explain her policies and procedures to others, for example the Ofsted inspector. She is unfamiliar with the EYFS which is required

need to do better?

11 May 2022 as part of her registration. Therefore, the childminder is not ensuring that she meets the legal requirements to offer children the best quality of care and education possible. n The childminder does not use assessment to inform her planning. She creates a narrow curriculum that focuses on social and physical development, as she does not understand the other areas of learning. As a result, new learning opportunities are not considered for children within their play and on outings. n Information shared with parents is limited to what activities their child has been doing and does not consider developmental progress and next steps. In addition, the childminder does not engage with other settings that children attend. As a result, she is not aware of any next steps and interests that they may be working on, both at home and in the other setting. This does not ensure that children's needs are being met.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children's behaviour is good, they understand right from wrong. However, play is very repetitive and lacks challenge. As a result, children are not motivated or given the opportunity to build their resilience and manage their own behaviour and feelings.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder does not have a strong enough understanding of her role and responsibilities to keep children safe. She has a considerably basic understanding of the different types of abuse. As a result, her knowledge of the signs and symptoms which may show that a child is being abused or neglected is also poor. The childminder does not fully understand the procedures she must follow in line with the local safeguarding partnership and would be heavily reliant on support from the local authority. The childminder confirmed that this area of her practice is weak but has not tried to access training to update her skills.
