Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
This is the home’s first inspection since it was registered in December 2021.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The two children living in the home have made progress from their starting points. Regular attendance at school means that both the children have progressed their learning and enjoy spending time with friends. One child who has historically missed significant periods of schooling is now on track to completing a school exam.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Children have opportunities on a day-to-day basis to take part in activities in the home and in the local community, and enjoy good-quality day trips. A strength of the staff team is its commitment to ensuring that the children have time with their families. One parent told the inspector that the staff ‘go the extra mile’ by providing support and accommodation for the family when they visit. As a result, both children are rebuilding relationships with family members, and one child is planned to return to living with their family.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The staff know the children well and show them genuine warmth and care. The inspector observed staff engaging with children in a supportive, caring and sensitive manner, and the children interacted well with the staff. The children are valued and listened to and are very much involved with all aspects of their care.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
The children are safe and are cared for by staff that are, in the main, experienced and knowledgeable. Staff are competent when speaking with the children, and open and frank conversations are recorded as taking place. As a result, the children take on board the messages they are given, behaviours are positively supported, and physical intervention is not used.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
The staff support the children well when they are upset, and incidents have been short lived. The positive interventions delivered by the staff team have supported both children to move on from these experiences and develop strategies to reduce incidents and risk. One child has made sufficient progress in managing risks, so much so that a deprivation of liberty order has been reviewed and they are now enjoying unsupervised time with their family.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
The registered manager and staff team achieve a balance that allows the children to take risks while ensuring that the children remain safe. Risk assessments are routinely reviewed to capture any increased risk as the children become more independent. Inspection report for children’s home: 2635655 4
p.3
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
The registered manager is confident and consistent in her leadership of the home. The home is managed efficiently and there is an established and stable staff team.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
There was an overwhelmingly positive response from staff about the home and the registered manager during this inspection. A child-centred approach, good communication and comprehensive reports were themes throughout the feedback from professionals.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
The children’s experiences are captured in well-documented records. They are personalised and written in a way that will help the children understand their time when living in the home. Monthly monitoring reports accurately reflect the quality of care the children receive and the progress they make.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
Training is comprehensive and all the staff are up to date with their mandatory training. Staff benefit from regular supervision and team meetings that provide them with opportunities to reflect and develop their practice.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
The effective leadership and positive culture of the home directly contribute to the good care that is provided to the children. Inspection report for children’s home: 2635655 5
