p.1

The provision is good

Children settle quickly when they first arrive at the childminder's home. They show a good sense of belonging and know what is expected of them. Children share warm, positive relationships with the childminder, who gets to know them well and provides what they need to prepare them for future learning. Children are happy and content. They move around the home, freely selecting their own resources and experiences. Children enjoy playing inside and outside the childminder's home, including in the blue playhouse at the end of the garden. This is full of resources, such as items for dressing up, dinosaurs and books, all of which children are able to access freely. The childminder has high expectations of children and they mostly play well together. They particularly enjoy the responsibility of helping her with daily tasks within the setting. For example, children enjoyed helping the childminder fill up the water fountain and discussing how to take care of slugs.

They are exposed to different languages and are learning some phrases in German. Children are encouraged to develop their independence by being allowed to chop fruit, wash their hands and put on their own shoes.

She intervenes at the earliest opportunity to support children to share and be kind to one another. However, the childminder misses opportunities to discuss the importance of this with children, to help them understand how actions and words can have an effect on other people's feelings. n The childminder supports children to learn all about themselves and what makes them unique. For example, the children have recently made their own family tree. n The childminder shares information with other settings that children attend, to ensure continuity in their learning and development.
