p.1
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home has been redecorated since the last inspection. The locks have been removed from internal communal doors allowing free movement. This, together with new bright and modern furnishings, makes the home feel more welcoming. Children’s bedrooms have also been redecorated and personalised to reflect each of the children’s interests.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
One child moved into the home the day before the inspection. This followed a well- planned transition undertaken by the management team. The child was supported to move into the home with their pet. Staff ensured that the child was made to feel welcome and helped them to settle into the home and the day-to-day routines.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
One child has successfully moved on to semi-independent living shortly after the last inspection. The staff team helped them through a move to their own flat. Prior to the move, staff supported the child to visit their family. This was a significant distance away and included travelling outside of the country. The child had positively secured employment having completed their college studies.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
One child has continued to struggle to engage in education since the last inspection. Their attendance is very low and is directly linked to the continued missing episodes from the home. The current blended timetable means the child is not in school full time. Staff have had limited success in helping the child to engage in formal and/or informal learning. However, there remain significant gaps in the child’s education.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Consultation provided to staff, by the in-house clinical team, has helped them to support the child’s emotional well-being. This is important given the increased concern for the child’s mental health. Staff have also worked effectively with the designated health professionals to help support the child’s physical health needs.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
During the inspection, staff were trying to locate the child, due to them being missing from the home overnight. Staff receive the appropriate training to equip them with the knowledge of how to respond to risks associated with children going missing. Staff work effectively with statutory agencies when children go missing.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Risk management plans for the child had not been reviewed following a previous missing episode. Plans had also not been updated with information provided by statutory agencies. This means staff do not have knowledge of relevant identified risks which specifically relate to the child’s potential whereabouts while missing. There is no effective management oversight of plans by the registered manager. Staff have completed limited support sessions following a missing episode. Inspection report for children’s home: SC446325 3 Sanctions used in the home have included a child making a financial contribution to the cost of a taxi fare on return from being missing. The sanction was utilised on two separate occasions, over a short period, without a review of the effectiveness of this taking place. The registered manager did not record the rationale for agreement to this. However, there has been a change in the home more recently, with a focus
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
on more positive incentives, which has benefited the child.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff have not undertaken a physical intervention in response to a child’s behaviour since the last inspection. However, there is an appropriate system in place, with the responsible individual monitoring any physical interventions, should these involve the registered manager. The registered manager has appropriately provided a quality of care report to Ofsted in accordance with the relevant regulation. Inspection report for children’s home: SC446325 4
