p.1

The provision is good

This warm-natured, caring childminder provides a setting where children feel emotionally secure. Children are happy and safe in her care and demonstrate a strong sense of belonging.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is passionate about her role and she holds high expectations of what each child can achieve. She gathers detailed information about children and their families from the start. She finds out about children's routines and development at home, their likes, dislikes and interests. She uses this information, along with her own assessments of children's learning, to plan for their next steps. As a result, all children make good progress from their starting points.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are friendly and behave well. They are confident around visitors and are happy to show them their toys. The childminder is patient and she calmly reminds children how to be polite. Children form strong friendships with one another and learn how to take turns on the trampoline and see-saw.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder places high priority on developing children's communication skills and encourages them to become confident talkers. Throughout the daily activities, the childminder provides commentaries, models good conversational skills and builds on children's responses. Stories are shared and enjoyed together. The childminder makes very good use of singing to help children learn new vocabulary and understand the structure of sentences.

n The childminder plans a variety of activities across the curriculum which engage children for long periods. The childminder extends the children's learning well. When children play excitedly with bubbles, she encourages them to observe them floating and bursting and introduces new words in the conversation. For example, when children say 'tiny', the childminder says 'minuscule'. n Children are well motivated to explore and learn. They dance with coloured scarves and investigate how their vision changes when they look through them. n Children learn mathematical notions well during their play. For instance, they explore shapes and colours while drawing with chalks in the garden. The childminder counts at every opportunity and, when children are playing with the bead maze, she introduces concepts such as 'over' and 'under'. n The childminder values the different languages children hear and speak at home. She gathers information from parents about the different languages

They regularly visit places of interest in the local community, including parks and playgroups, where they meet with other childminders and their childminded children. n The childminder sets clear rules and has high expectations for children's behaviour. She intervenes quickly to resolve any conflicts and makes good use of praise to reinforce positive behaviour. Children take pride in their achievements and excitedly show the childminder their creations. n Children develop good physical skills. They skilfully negotiate space as they wheel the push-along toys around. Children improve their stamina and coordination effectively as they jump, climb and bounce on the equipment provided. In addition, children practise mark making and picking up small items with their fingers and thumb. This helps to develop their fine motor skills. n This dedicated childminder regularly evaluates her provision, accesses relevant

training courses and meets with colleagues. This helps her to keep her knowledge and skills up to date and enables her to continually make improvements. n Parents are very complimentary about the care and education that the childminder provides. They say that they are lucky to have found her. The childminder keeps parents informed of their children's progress through a range of methods, including learning journals, verbal feedback and messaging services. This helps parents to continue their children's learning at home. n The childminder supports children's understanding of good hygiene. They know that it is important to wash their hands before meals and after playing in the garden. n Children have access to fresh water throughout the day and eat healthy foods. However, the childminder does not consistently organise the mealtime routine well enough. As a result, children have to wait too long for their meals, and

mealtimes do not promote their social and independence skills as well as they could.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a strong understanding of how to safeguard children. She knows the possible indicators of abuse and the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child in her care. The childminder has a secure understanding of wider safeguarding issues and knows what to do if an allegation is made against her or a member of her family. She regularly updates her safeguarding training and is trained in paediatric first aid. Children learn how to play safely. For example, the childminder reminds them to be careful when climbing up the steps to the slide.
