p.1

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judged that it has sustained effectiveness.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the previous inspection, a new manager has been appointed. Staff report feeling positive about the change and the support they now receive. Staff receive regular, reflective, supervision sessions. These now include relevant discussions about children in the home and their needs. Team meetings show discussions about the use of language at the home. This is reflected in improved records that refer appropriately to children and risk. The manager has made progress in some areas of the home, meeting four out of six of the previous requirements. However, there continues to be work necessary to embed these into practice.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

There have been a number of significant incidents since the last inspection, where children have been at risk of harm. Staff take appropriate action in response to keep children safe. Leaders and managers recognise where they cannot continue to meet children’s needs. Staff’s awareness of child exploitation has increased through training offered. Identification of risks for one child shows that this learning is increasingly understood. The manager tracks incidents and makes appropriate notifications to the regulator.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Children’s plans do not consistently contain up-to-date information to support staff to care for children. It is not clear when plans are updated or due for review. Risk assessments are not always updated following every incident. In addition, they do not always contain the action needed to mitigate risks or link with other plans. For example, health needs contained in the child’s plan are not reflected in the risk assessment. This means staff do not have clarity about how to support children.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff spend time with children, helping them to pursue their interests. However, not all children are accessing their education offer. One child’s mental health needs have led to a reduced timetable. Despite this, they continue to struggle to attend the adapted offer. Another child is not regularly accessing the online tuition provided by their school. This results in children lacking structure to their day and not achieving their educational potential. Inspection report children’s home: SC470290 3
