At the last inspection, Ofsted raised four requirements and two recommendations. Managers have taken sufficient action to address three of the requirements and both of the recommendations. It has not been possible to assess the requirement raised relating to the safer recruitment of staff at this inspection. This requirement has been re-issued. A further two requirements have been made as a result of this inspection.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff do not receive regular supervision and some staff have not received adequate supervision for some time. This shortfall means that staff do not have appropriate opportunities to reflect on their practice. In addition, managers are unable to quickly identify any shortfalls in staff practice. This is detrimental to children’s progress.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The most recent statement of purpose for the home has not been sent to Ofsted as required. This delay means that Ofsted and stakeholders may not have accurate or up-to-date information about this home or the aims and objectives of the service.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

A requirement relating to the environment was raised at the last inspection. Staff have ensured that children’s bedrooms are now personalised and that communal areas have been refurbished to a good standard. The home now offers a warm and welcoming environment for children. This helps children to feel appreciated and to develop a sense of belonging.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Children’s school attendance is varied. Staff work closely with teachers to ensure that any barriers to learning that children face are addressed. This ensures that children receive the help that they need to continue with their learning.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Children now benefit from having more structure and routine to their day. Staff support children to take part in individual and group activities. Group activities include playing golf and going for walks. These activities stimulate children and help them to build positive relationships with each other and with staff. As a result, children are not bored at the home and they now spend less time in the community on their own. Consequently, there has been a reduction in missing-from-care incidents since the last inspection. Inspection report for children’s home: SC457430 3 All staff have now completed training in behaviour management and training specific to the children’s needs. This helps staff to better understand children’s behaviours and experiences. As a result, staff deliver regular and more focused key-work sessions. The impact of this work is yet to be fully assessed.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

One allegation has been made about staff since the last inspection. Managers have worked closely with the local authority designated officer and social workers to investigate this concern. Safeguarding procedures were followed appropriately . This helps to keep children safe.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Children contribute to decisions made at the home. They hold regular meetings to share their views. In addition, they can speak to staff at any time to express their wishes and feelings. This helps children to feel valued and respected by staff. Inspection report for children’s home: SC457430 4
