The one child who currently lives in the home is settled and making good progress. Before the child moved in, the registered manager gave appropriate consideration as to whether the staff had the skills to meet his needs and how best to support his transition into the home. The child was given the opportunity to visit the home and eat a meal with staff before he moved in. This gave the child the chance to understand what to expect from the home and to manage any anxieties that he had.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The child has good relationships with staff and enjoys spending time with them. As a result, he trusts staff and can talk to them about any worries that he may have. Staff are appropriately affectionate towards the child and this is reciprocated. This provides the child with an invaluable source of emotional warmth.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff understand the importance of education and have worked swiftly to ensure that the child is able to access education. This has been successful and not only is the child attending education, but he is enjoying doing so. Staff work closely with the school to discuss the child’s progress and to adapt the support that is available to him both at home and in the school.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
When the child is not in school, he has a busy schedule and spends lots of time doing fun activities. This includes camping, walking and climbing. He is also part of a football club, undertakes charity work and regularly plays pool. The opportunity to complete this variety of activities and at such a regular frequency has contributed to the child feeling happy to live at the home.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff make sure that the child can spend time with his family when appropriate to do so. Staff are sensitive to how the child may feel before and after these visits and put in place the necessary support measures for him. This caring and thoughtful approach ensures that the child can maintain relationships with those people who are important to him.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff have a good understanding of the child’s vulnerabilities and know what to do to manage these. Staff say that the risk assessments, which are continually reviewed and updated, help them to take the necessary steps to protect the child. During his time in the home, there have been few concerns about his safety. This is because staff have taken preventative steps to keep him safe. On the rare occasions when the child has left the home without permission or gone missing- from-care, staff have taken swift action to locate and return him. Inspection report children's home: 2583518 3 Staff are quick to celebrate the child’s success. They praise and reward the child for his achievements and good behaviour. As a result, the child strives to please staff and make positive choices.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The house is well maintained and provides the child with a comfortable and homely place to spend time. The registered manager has plans to landscape the garden area. This work has been delayed because of Covid-19. This has not affected the child’s experience of living in the home as he spends lots of time in the local area completing fun leisure activities.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The staff, some of who are new to the home, are enthusiastic, keen and child focussed. Staff say that they feel well supported by the leadership team and each other. This is because the registered manager has actively encouraged and empowered staff to work collaboratively and to share ideas as to how to further improve the home.
p.3
