p.1
The provision is good
Children thrive in the care of the loving childminder. They settle quickly and play nicely together, developing strong friendships. The childminder ensures that she has a good knowledge of children's interests and provides resources to help children settle when they first start at the setting. Children gain confidence quickly. For example, they ask for support to reach a pull-along toy and show interest in how it works.
p.2
The provision is good
The curriculum is well designed and the play space is well organised, which helps motivate children to an exceptional level. Children are fully engaged in their learning and focus intently on their self-chosen play. For example, they thoroughly enjoy constructing with a range of blocks. The childminder's positive interactions help children to develop their language skills effectively. Children investigate the shape, size and colour of the blocks, building on their previous learning. They confidently try and test their ideas, finding the best piece to extend their designs.
p.2
The provision is good
Children develop high levels of self-esteem and have a very positive attitude to learning. They receive regular praise, and the childminder takes time each day to tell children what they have done to make her proud. There is good support for children learning English as an additional language. Children smile with glee when the childminder speaks to them in their home language.

need to do better?
n The childminder uses her training well to provide a wide range of experiences to support children's interests and help them progress in their learning. She has a good knowledge of what children know and can do and plans an effective curriculum to build on their learning. For example, children who previously used the blocks to build towers then use them to enclose space, putting play figures inside and developing their imaginations. n Children thoroughly enjoy singing. They keenly participate in the actions, even anticipating the next movements, and squeal in delight. Some children are encouraged to choose which songs they wish to sing. However, this is not consistent for the youngest children. The childminder uses coloured scarves well to reinforce children's learning as they sing a new song about a rainbow. She helps children recall their previous learning well. Children begin to name the colours as they enthusiastically swirl the scarves.

need to do better?
n The childminder manages young children's behaviour highly effectively. She understands what triggers certain reactions and is quick to distract children. She acknowledges how young children feel and helps them to name the emotion. The childminder interacts highly effectively to help children resolve disputes that arise, for example when they both want the same toy. Children from an early

However, on occasion, she does not help children to identify potential risks, such as wearing socks on the wooden floor, or encourage them to help put away tripping hazards to clear the play space. n The childminder provides good opportunities for children to gain independence. The youngest children make good attempts to dress themselves and put their shoes on ready for regular walks in the community. n The childminder works efficiently with parents to provide consistent care practices that meet children's individual needs. For example, she works closely with parents to limit the use of dummies, to provide better opportunities for children to speak and explore language. Parents comment favourably about how

settled and confident their children are. They particularly value the childminder's patience and consistency in supporting young children's understanding of behavioural expectations. n The childminder evaluates the provision well and recognises what is needed to maintain high standards of care and learning. She has professional discussions with other childminders to develop her skills and to share key messages from training. She participates in a resource loaning system to provide a greater range of resources to entice learning.

p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder uses effective arrangements to ensure children are collected by known and authorised adults. She uses her risk assessments well to ensure children remain safe on their various outings. The childminder has a good understanding of the indicators that a child is at risk of harm, including a wide range of safeguarding issues, such as county lines. She understands her responsibility to report any concerns to the appropriate agencies.
