p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Two children are living in the home. Since the last inspection, one child has left the home and one child has moved in. Staff thoroughly plan children’s transitions and ensure that children have all the support they need to make their move as positive as possible. This helps to reduce children’s anxieties about moving to a new home.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager seeks children’s views when planning their transition to the home. They provide children with an interactive guide before they move in. This includes activities for children to complete about their likes and dislikes. For example, children draw pictures of their favourite foods. They also design how they would like their bedroom to look. As a result, children settle in well and say they like living in the home.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff support children to keep in touch with children who have moved out of the home. This is to maintain sibling-like relationships and promote positive endings. As a result, children make sense of their loss and settle well in their new homes.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff are nurturing in their approach. They help children to develop safer ways to express their feelings. As a result, children feel happy, safe and cared for. Furthermore, significant incidents have reduced in the home. Since the last inspection, children have not made any allegations. In addition, there have not been any incidents of children going missing from the home.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Consultation with children has much improved. The manager and staff gather children’s wishes and feelings in a variety of ways. Trained staff support children to use an app to express their views to professionals about the care they receive. As a result, children contribute to their care planning.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The provider’s clinical team does not deliver children’s care in line with the home’s statement of purpose. One child has lived at the home for 18 months. They are yet to receive therapy in line with their care plan. This is due to several staffing changes within the clinical team. The provider has recently appointed a new practitioner to enable the child to receive their therapy. Inspection report for children's home: SC476252 3 The home has also appointed a new therapeutic residential worker. However, the worker also provides day-to-day care to children. This includes responding to behaviours which may present as a challenge to staff. This has the potential to compromise children’s therapeutic relationships. Furthermore, the worker does not receive clinical supervision. As a result, they are not provided with opportunities to reflect on their practice. Consequently, the monitoring of their intervention is

p.2

The quality of recording in the home varies. The recording of some significant incidents does not include accurate information. For example, staff did not record that one child had damaged their wardrobe during an incident. Another recording of a physical intervention was also littered with errors. This may hinder the manager’s review of these incidents.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff do not receive regular supervision. This is a missed opportunity to develop their practice. The recording of some supervision is poor. This lacks detail and reflection on children's experiences.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The independent visitor does not consult with children to gather their views. They often visit the home during the day when children are at school. This hinders the external scrutiny of the home. Neither does this help the provider to improve the quality of care children receive.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Leaders and the manager have systems in place to monitor the care children receive. Audits identify shortfalls in staff practice. There are action plans in place to address them. The manager has a good understanding of the care children receive and how this impacts on them.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the last inspection, the fire safety officer has revisited the home. They have confirmed that the premises are compliant in respect of fire safety.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Three out of the four requirements made at the last inspection were met. Leaders and the manager have strengthened the stability of the staff team. Staff skills have developed and, in particular, their response to ensuring the children’s safety. There is also better oversight by the manager of the care children receive. These improvements are enhancing the care that children receive. Inspection report for children's home: SC476252 4
