p.1

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the last inspection, a child has moved to another home in the company. The move was planned and staff supported the child to make this move a positive and successful experience.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

A child has recently moved into the home. Staff’s nurturing care is helping them to build positive relationships and settle quickly. Warm interactions between the staff and child were observed during the inspection.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

When children move from another area, staff work closely with social workers and virtual schools to identify and arrange suitable education. This helps children to get back to school quickly and continue with their learning.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff promote children’s health well. They make sure that they have access to the specialist support that they need, for example physiotherapy. Staff talk to children about their health and development, including puberty and sexual health. This helps to prepare children for adolescence.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Not all staff demonstrate sufficient understanding about the child’s background and journey through care. This potentially undermines staff’s ability to talk to children about their past experiences and help them overcome any previous trauma. Furthermore, staff’s lack of knowledge about the child’s history could undermine the child’s development of a positive self-view and sense of identity.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Safeguarding practice continues to be an area for development. At times, staff are risk averse, which is preventing the child from taking age-appropriate risks and developing their independence. Additionally, risk assessments are too generic and do not adequately reflect the child’s individual needs and vulnerabilities.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff do not proactively talk to children about potential dangers and unsafe behaviour. Consequently, staff are missing opportunities to help children to understand risk and learn how to keep themselves safe.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Monitoring of the home by leaders and managers continues to be weak. For example, improvement is required to the manager’s review and evaluation of risk assessments.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Most of the requirements raised at the last inspection have been satisfactorily addressed. However, one requirement is repeated due to some continued shortfalls in safeguarding practice. Inspection report children’s home: SC456942 3
