Information about this children’s home

Due to COVID-19, at the request of the Secretary of State, we suspended all routine inspections of social care providers carried out under the social care common inspection framework (SCCIF) on 17 March 2020. We returned to routine SCCIF inspections on 12 April 2021.

p.1

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

At this interim inspection, Ofsted judged that it has sustained effectiveness.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager has addressed concerns raised at the full inspection with regard to the physical environment of the home. The garden has been renovated and is now a nice space to use. The bathroom of the home has also been updated and modernised. The home has new pictures, and the child is happy with her bedroom. These improvements create a homely and comfortable place for children to live in.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The child continues to make progress. She is employed part time, pursues her interests and hobbies enthusiastically and has high aspirations for her future as she prepares to move on from the home.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager has now received the child’s pathway plan. This outlines how the child will move on from the home. The child is supported to learn some of the independent living skills needed as an adult. However, this support continues to lack structure. For example, where there are identified areas of need that require support, staff do not arrange productive key-work sessions to address these areas. Furthermore, staff do not plan for, or anticipate, future risks or needs. This means that the child may not be fully prepared for independent living when this time arrives.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff do not consistently follow the child’s risk assessment, or the company policy, on how to manage and reduce risks. This means that when staff observe poor practice they do not report this to the manager. On one occasion, the manager discovered this information when the child raised concerns about the behaviour of a member of staff. This lack of action from staff placed the child at risk of harm.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager does not ensure that all staff receive appropriate levels of supervision and support. One member of staff has been under investigation as a result of concerns about their practice. Supervision has not been adequate in addressing or monitoring these concerns. The manager did not complete an assessment of the staff member’s fitness to carry out their duties, or any risks that they may pose pending the outcome of the investigation. This could leave a child at risk of harm. Inspection report for children’s home: SC457434 3
