p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and thrive in the home-from-home learning environment. Children show that they feel safe and have strong attachments with the childminder. They include her in their play and go to her for cuddles and reassurance. Children benefit from the large garden where they have daily opportunities to run around in the fresh air. This helps to support their physical skills and overall well-being. The childminder supports younger children to jump from low platforms, helping them to develop their coordination skills. She reminds young children to be gentle as they stroke the rabbits. They discuss what rabbits eat and drink. This helps children to develop an appreciation of nature and the world around them.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder plans exciting activities based on what children already know and can do, and what she has identified that they need to learn next. She understands that children have missed out on opportunities to socialise with their peers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The childminder regularly takes children to playgroups and on outings with other childminders. This means they have opportunities to interact with other children and adults who have different backgrounds and follow different faiths. This helps children to understand how they are unique. Children are developing the social skills they will need as they progress on to school. They behave well.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder knows children very well. She has effective systems in place to monitor and assess their progress. This means the childminder quickly identifies any gaps in children's learning and addresses these swiftly. This ensures that children do not fall behind in their learning. n Children have positive attitudes towards their learning and generally make good progress. However, occasionally, during group activities, the childminder does not always adapt activities to fully support younger children. Consequently, they lose focus and do not always achieve the desired learning outcome. n The childminder models good vocabulary, giving children lots of opportunities to hear and practise new words. This helps them to become more fluent communicators. The childminder captures children's attention as she reads familiar stories to them using an exciting range of voices. Children display a developing love of reading as they ask the childminder to read to them

29 March 2022 count the number of legs that it has. Children are developing the mathematical skills needed to progress through their education. n The childminder promotes children's developing independence effectively. She sensitively supports them to put their shoes on the correct feet. Children successfully cut up fruit for their snack using safety knives. They understand that they need to wash their hands before eating and after playing outside. The childminder reminds children why this is important. This helps to support children to form healthy habits. n The childminder has high expectations and is ambitious for all children. They show delight as she praises their good manners and perseverance. Children beam with pride as they successfully attach a leaf to a wooden stick after thinking about different ways that they could achieve this. They rush to show the childminder and tell her that they have made 'a green ice-pop'.

need to do better?

n The childminder builds and maintains effective relationships with parents. Parents comment on how superbly the childminder supports children's emotional well-being. They feel involved in their children's learning as a result of the excellent communication from the childminder. This means that children benefit from consistency in their learning and development. n The childminder's paediatric first-aid certificate has recently expired. However, she has a secure understanding of the procedures for dealing with accidents and emergency situations. The childminder has completed the online part of her new paediatric first-aid course and is due to complete the practical session imminently. This will ensure that her knowledge and practical skills are refreshed and up to date. Therefore, children's safety is not significantly compromised.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a thorough understanding of a range of safeguarding issues. She confidently discusses indicators of abuse and why bruising on non-mobile children is a cause for concern. The childminder understands the procedures which she must follow if she has a concern about a child in her care. She knows how to respond and who to contact if an allegation is made about herself or another adult in her household. The childminder has recently sourced additional training to refresh her knowledge around radicalisation and extremism. She ensures that her premises are safe and secure, and she carefully monitors the areas accessed by children. This means that children remain safe in her care.
