p.1

The provision requires improvement

Overall, children receive high levels of supervision from the childminder and her assistants. On the day of inspection it was observed that the front door was propped slightly open. However, the childminder took prompt action to keep the door closed when this was pointed out to her. She understood the need to ensure this door remains closed at all times when minded children are present. Children play in a clean home environment. Older children play for long periods, engrossed in the challenges and learning offered to them. However, there are occasions when young children are engaged in the same activity for long periods. This means there are missed opportunities for young infants to make robust progress in their development. This is due to poor planning and engagement from the childminder at certain times.

The provision requires improvement

Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. They receive good levels of praise and kindness from the childminder. Children behave well. They are learning about the importance of sharing resources and turn taking, including when they want the same resource to play with in the sandpit in the park. Children have opportunities to develop an awareness of themselves and of diversity and differences in others around them. They go out daily in the local community, and the childminder ensures both boys and girls have equal access to all play and learning experiences.

need to do better?

n The childminder has taken steps to ensure that her recruitment process for assistants is robust. For example, she ensures that she now seeks two professional references. This helps to safeguard children by having appropriate adults around them. n The childminder supports children's language development well, overall. She extends children's vocabulary in both English and Spanish as they play and through everyday routines. The childminder provides commentary and talks about what children are doing as they play. n The childminder promotes children's self-care and independence well. Older children enjoy setting up and clearing away toys. They are very aware of the daily routine. Children help each other and the adults caring for them to move on to other aspects of the routine, for example when they are getting ready for breakfast or going out in the community. n Older children enjoy challenging play, including problem-solving with shape

sorters and completing puzzles using different shapes. Young infants like to explore the tactile and interactive resources, where they use their fingers to press buttons and operate different functions. n Children enjoy the healthy meals and snacks the childminder provides for them.

need to do better?

28 March 2022 She helps children to learn to feed themselves, which supports their independence. Young infants are fed attentively and with food appropriate for their stage of development. n The childminder engages with parents to complete assessments, such as the progress check for two-year-old children. However, her initial interactions with parents when children first start are not well developed. The childminder does not engage effectively with parents, to promote children's learning and development from the outset. n The childminder supports parents to use other childcare provisions alongside her childminding service. However, she does not engage effectively with other professionals in these settings. This does not support children to reach their full potential by ensuring there is open and continuous dialogue between all adults involved in their care. n Parents share positive feedback about the childminder. They say that children's

speech and language are promoted well in English, and that children learn Spanish effectively as the childminder speaks this with them. Parents also comment that the childminder places a particular emphasis on children learning new words, promotes independence at mealtimes and supports children's physical skills when painting and climbing. They say that their children are happy to attend and are well cared for. n The childminder maintains communication with her local authority professionals to receive training and support. This helps to support the development of her provision.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder and her assistants have an appropriate understanding of how to protect children from harm and know how to keep them safe. The childminder has completed training in some aspects of safeguarding since her last inspection, which ensures she is updated about any changes. The childminder recognises when a child may be at risk and knows who to contact. She also knows who to contact if an allegation is made against her or her assistants.
