p.1

The provision is good

Children form strong attachments with the childminder. They respond well to her caring approach and clearly enjoy their time with her. At story, time, children sit close to the childminder and listen carefully as she reads to them. They are keen to have her playing with them, but equally are able to initiate and extend their own play. Children express their views and wishes confidently, such as which toys they want to play with. Children are very much 'at home' in the setting. They leave their parents confidently at drop-off time and engage quickly in play. The childminder knows the children well and ensures favourite resources, such as dinosaurs figures and picture books, are readily available when they arrive.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are very active and love being outdoors. As well as learning through activities in the garden, they benefit from frequent trips and outings. This raises their understanding of the world as well as enabling them to use different equipment and resources. Children are learning how to share and take turns. They are kind and caring and developing an understanding of tolerance and respect for others.

need to do better?

n The childminder has successfully addressed the actions raised at her last inspection. She values the advice and support given by the local authority early years team and other professionals. This ensures requirements for safeguarding and welfare and learning and development are met. n The childminder is keen to continue to develop her provision and complete training to enhance her practice. Recent training has helped to raise her understanding of how to help children who require additional support. n The childminder is fully aware of the importance of successfully promoting speech and language. She uses storytelling and singing activities to build children's vocabulary and speaking skills. The childminder sensitively supports children who struggle with communication. She is patient, gives them time to process things and speaks clearly and slowly. n Overall, children gain good personal skills, behave well and develop their

independence. They choose what they want to play with and manage some personal tasks themselves. However, at times, the childminder does not encourage children to try to do things for themselves. For example, when getting ready to play outside, she automatically puts children's shoes on for them. Additionally, the childminder does not always encourage children to help with tidying away toys when they have finished playing. This does not ensure that they get consistent messages about taking responsibility and expected behaviour. n Children's health is promoted well. High standards of cleanliness are maintained

24 March 2022 throughout the childcare areas. Effective procedures are place for routines, such as nappy changing. Children are learning about the importance of handwashing and eating nutritious foods. They get lots of fresh air and exercise and engage in many activities that support their physical development, such as playing football and using slides. n Parents speak highly of the childminder and the care their children receive. They say their children make good progress in their learning while at the setting and enjoy attending. They say that the childminder is proactive at sharing information with them about their child on a daily basis.

p.2

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure knowledge of the signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows what to do should she have concerns about the welfare of a child or if an allegation was made against herself or a household member. The childminder is aware of her responsibilities for online safety and the use of mobile phones and cameras in relation to her work. She checks that equipment is safe, suitable and developmentally appropriate for use. Exterior doors and gates are kept locked to prevent children leaving unattended or unauthorised persons gaining entry.

p.3

should:

n give children time and opportunity to attempt and complete tasks themselves n further develop children's sense of responsibility, for example by encouraging them to help to tidy up when they finish playing.
