p.1

The provision is good

Children have warm and secure attachments with the childminder and her assistant. They benefit from a broad and well-planned curriculum, which successfully supports them to make good progress in their learning. Children enjoy spending time together and show that they are happy, safe and settled. They enjoy regular opportunities to get to know their local area and socialise with other children when they attend local playgroups. Children spend a great deal of time outside in the local area, where they go fruit picking, have picnics in the park and visit the safari park and zoo. They develop a real love of the outdoor environment as they spend time in the garden. Children have a fabulous time collecting cherry blossom, grass and flowers from the garden to create a rainbow cake in the mud kitchen. They develop a love of nature and animals as they talk about seeing the baby lambs across the field.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are confident to lead their own learning and make choices about what they want to play with or do. They confidently climb on the outdoor climbing frame and ride scooters and cars along the garden path. Children behave extremely well. They are enthusiastic and keen to interact with the childminder, her assistant and any visitors as they share their mud cakes and puddings and make drinks, adding flowers and grass. Children learn about good hygiene and older children attend to their toileting needs independently. They are encouraged to wash their hands and dry them, and do so without support. The childminder ensures all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, have the same opportunities and experiences. She works with parents and other professionals to ensure children get the support they need.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She holds high expectations of what each child can achieve. The childminder and her assistant are calm and nurturing towards the children. They positively promote their sense of belonging and emotional well-being as children move around the spacious playroom, choosing what they play with. Children spend lots of time playing in the role-play area, where they pretend they are cooking and making tea for the adults as they develop their imagination. n The childminder provides a good range of interesting activities, that motivate children to take part. For instance, children are eager and excited to join in yoga and show how they stretch their arms and move their bodies to music. The childminder helps children learn about the natural world. Children are supported well to talk about their own families. However, they have few opportunities to learn about other cultures and communities beyond their own experiences.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children are keen and enthusiastic to participate in activities and discussions.

p.2

need to do better?

22 March 2022 Older children play cooperatively, and they enjoy taking turns when using equipment, such as the trampoline, and children know that only one child at a time can use it. This means children have very positive attitudes to learning. n Children enjoy a variety of healthy snacks and fruit and regular drinks throughout the day. The childminder encourages children to learn how to keep themselves safe, when using knives for cutting their own fruits at snack time. Children are developing their independence and learning about healthy eating. n The childminder gathers information from parents about their children's routines, interests and abilities before they start. She monitors their progress and has a clear idea of where children are in their learning. The childminder identifies appropriate next steps for children, such as how to encourage them not to have a dummy. This helps to close any gaps in children's communication and

language skills. She encourages parents to read to their children at home and offers books with toy characters from the story they can take home. This helps children develop a love for books. n The childminder and her assistant plan stimulating activities, which are closely linked to children's interests and next steps in learning. They read stories to children as they sit in the cosy area with comfortable cushions and fairy lights. Babies sing along to nursery rhymes played by a voice activated device as they toddle around the playroom. However, occasionally during activities, younger children are left to entertain themselves when the older more dominant children seek the childminder's attention. n The childminder ensures her assistant keeps up to date with training. He is committed to his new role and takes full advantage of any training opportunities to raise his skills and qualification. Together, they meet regularly to plan

activities, assess children's progress and decide what they want them to learn next.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder and her assistant have good knowledge of child protection procedures and know how to keep children safe. The assistant has undertaken safeguarding training, which helps him stay up to date with current legislation. The childminder and assistant remain alert to signs and symptoms of abuse and know to refer a concern about a child or adult. The childminder carries out risk assessments indoors and outdoors, including risk assessing outings. They ensure that children are supervised closely. This ensures their safety. They teach children about the importance of personal safety. For example, children learn how to use the climbing frame safely. They understand why they wear high-visibility jackets when they go on outings.

p.3

should:

22 March 2022 n develop the opportunities for children to learn about other cultures and communities beyond their own experiences n review the organisation of group activities, so younger children can join in more fully.
