This provision does not meet requirements

The childminder has a weak understanding of the requirements of her registration. She is in breach of a number of requirements of the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage' (EYFS). This has a significant impact on children's safety and well-being. Children's safety is not assured because the childminder does not take sufficient action to identify and minimise risks. For example, perimeter fences and gates are not secure and doors are not locked. This means unauthorised persons can access the garden and house, which compromises children's safety.

This provision does not meet requirements

That said, children are happy in the childminder's care and show a sense of belonging. The childminder knows what activities the children enjoy and provides appropriate resources. Children enjoy learning to sew and make an owl from different pieces of fabric. They show good creative skills, when they make notebooks using paper and tape. Children access the garden for fresh air and exercise. They enjoy playing football and searching for objects hidden by their friends.

This provision does not meet requirements

The childminder encourages children to use good manners and to listen to one another. Children behave well and show respect to the childminder and their friends.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not have a secure knowledge and understanding of all statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register. She does not undertake professional development opportunities to avoid breaches in requirements or to address weaknesses promptly. This means that her knowledge is not up to date with the current regulations and legislation. n The childminder has not ensured that her safeguarding knowledge is up to date. She has not attended child protection training in over four years. She is not familiar with the guidance and procedures of the local safeguarding partnership. This means she lacks a clear understanding of many areas of child protection, including the 'Prevent' duty. Therefore, children's welfare is not assured. n The childminder has failed to maintain an appropriate paediatric first-aid qualification. Furthermore, she has not ensured that there is an accessible first-

aid kit with appropriate contents for children. Items in her first aid kit are years beyond their expiry date or are unsuitable. n Risk assessments are not effective. Although some measures, such as smoke alarms and fire drills help to keep children safe, the childminder has not installed a fire blanket. There are also trip hazards, such as a loose rug at the top of the

11 March 2022 stairs, that the childminder has failed to identify and address. Her home and garden are not secure. This means unauthorised people can enter the property and children could leave unsupervised. n The childminder does not ensure that she records the required information for every child in her care, including their full name, date of birth, parent's details and emergency contacts. This means she does not have all the necessary information available should there be an accident or concern about a child's welfare. n The childminder does not have sufficient knowledge of the information that must be reported to Ofsted. She has failed to inform Ofsted of a number of significant changes, for example closures to her provision. n Children learn to care for plants and animals. They enjoy helping to feed the family dogs and water the plants. n The childminder talks to parents daily about their preferences and feedback

about how she cares for their children. She finds out what children are learning at school and provides activities in her home to support this. n The childminder provides healthy and balanced meals that help to promote children's good health. n Relationships between the childminder and children are warm and supportive. They chat happily together, sharing information about their day. The childminder offers children help and guidance during activities. Children tell the inspector that the childminder is really nice to them. n Children are keen to take part in activities. They concentrate and do their best. They show pride in their achievements.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Weaknesses in safeguarding knowledge mean that the childminder may not be alert to some kinds of abuse. She does not understand the risks to children from extreme views and behaviours or how to identify those at risk from harm. Her understanding of local safeguarding partnership procedures is weak. She is not clear about the action to take if an allegation were to be made against her. That said, she does know where to get advice if she is worried about a child's welfare. The childminder does not recognise risks associated with the insecure garden area, unlocked doors and insufficient fire control equipment. The childminder supervises children when watching online content and helps them to understand how to keep themselves safe.
