Gateshead International Business Centre Mulgrave Terrace Gateshead NE8 1AN Monitoring visit: First Face to Face Limited, 17 February 2022
p.1
Context and focus of visit
From March 2019, Ofsted undertook to carry out monitoring visits to all newly directly funded providers of adult learning provision which began to be funded from August 2017. This monitoring visit was undertaken as part of those arrangements and as outlined in the ‘Further education and skills inspection handbook’, especially the sections entitled ‘Monitoring visits’ and ‘Monitoring visits to providers that are newly directly publicly funded’.
p.2
Context and focus of visit
First Face to Face Limited is an independent learning provider based in Gateshead. In August 2020, it began to receive funding from the North of Tyne Combined Authority to provide courses for adults who are interested in setting up their own business. At the time of the monitoring visit, there were 25 learners enrolled on a level 1 understanding enterprise course and five on a level 1 computerised accountancy programme.
p.2
Context and focus of visit
The focus of this visit is on the safeguarding theme below.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Since the previous monitoring visit, leaders and managers have taken positive steps to improve their safeguarding arrangements for learners and staff. They have made beneficial links with the regional Prevent coordination team. They attend meetings and events to become familiar with local risks affecting the region and feed these into sessions with learners. As a result, learners receive useful information that helps to remind them about how to stay safe, such as being aware of unattended baggage in highly populated areas, self-initiated terrorism acts and how to stay safe online from the risks of radicalisation.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Leaders and managers have appropriate policies and procedures in place which ensure that learners and staff feel safe. These clearly identify the process to be followed in the event of an incident occurring. When concerns are raised, staff follow the procedures and take appropriate action, which ensures that learners remain safe and cared for.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Leaders and managers have ensured that all staff have completed relevant safeguarding training. The two appointed designated safeguarding leaders have completed level 3 safeguarding training and all staff have completed level 2 training in safeguarding and the ‘Prevent’ duty. Monitoring visit: First Face to Face Limited, 17 February 2022 Staff meet frequently to discuss safeguarding topics. They are now more confident in presenting safeguarding information to learners. Tutors discuss with learners at induction the different threats and risks that learners may face. Learners receive clear information about who they can report concerns to and how concerns will be dealt with and recorded.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Staff help learners to recognise signs of abuse and explains how they can protect themselves from abuse in the home and workplace as well as when socialising. For example, they discuss with learners how to avoid their drinks being spiked by requesting drinks toppers from bar staff. However, learners are not provided with information which helps them develop their understanding of a number of other safeguarding issues, such as where to get help and support for mental ill-health problems. Monitoring visit: First Face to Face Limited, 17 February 2022 regulates and inspects to achieve excellence in the care of children and young people, and in education and skills for learners of all ages. It regulates and inspects childcare and children’s social care, and inspects the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass), schools, colleges, initial teacher training, further education and skills, adult and community learning, and education
