p.1

The provision is good

Children feel safe, happy and confident in the childminder's care. They adore her and show their obvious affection for her. Children excitedly ask the childminder, 'Can we fly'? She is highly responsive to their request and spins them around. Children squeal with delight and state, 'We're flying'. They play very well together. Children display their understanding of taking turns as they play traditional games that the childminder has taught them. They hide in different places, such as under the table, while other children search for them. Children understand and follow the rules of the game very well.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's behaviour is excellent. They respond well to the childminder's calm and sensitive guidance. Children learn to name and express their feelings. They understand the feelings of others and are developing empathy. Children are very polite, show kindness to each other and display good manners. They say, 'please', 'thank you' and 'excuse me please'.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations of what children can achieve, overall. Children are independent. They manage their personal care needs and dress themselves extremely well. Children experience social situations during mealtimes as they sit together at the dining table with the childminder. They join in conversations and enjoy the nutritious home-cooked food that the childminder provides.

n The childminder is clear on her intentions to help children develop good communication and language skills. Children use a wide vocabulary as they talk confidently about 'triceratops' and other dinosaurs. They also speak fluently, using sentences as they describe what they have done. The childminder is swift to identify children who are not progressing as expected, and provides additional support to help them with their speech. n Children demonstrate their good knowledge of a wide range of colours. The childminder builds on their existing knowledge to teach them new colours. However, during creative activities, she limits opportunities for children to freely express their own creative ideas and further develop their artistic skills. n The childminder supports children's mathematical understanding effectively. She introduces positional language, such as 'under', 'on top' and 'in the middle'. The childminder supports children's number recognition and counting skills. Children

count confidently and recognise numbers up to 10. They display their understanding of the 'smallest' and 'tallest' when connecting plastic stalks to make flowers. n Children are highly motivated and energetically dance around in circles. They

16 February 2022 display good balance, coordination and physical control of their bodies. The childminder provides plenty of space indoors and outdoors each day for children to be physically active. She also takes them on various outings to the local nature reserve, the canal and the farm. n The childminder introduces children to a wide range of books and reads stories over and over again. This helps them to develop their memory skills. Children concentrate well, listen attentively and predict what will happen next. However, the childminder does not consistently help them to understand that we write in English from left to right. n Parents speak very positively about the childminder. They value the advice they receive to help support their children's learning at home. The childminder keeps parents informed about their children's progress through regular updates, photographs, video clips and daily discussions. Parents describe the childminder

as being 'incredibly honest' and state that their children 'feel comfortable and absolutely love being in her care'. n The childminder uses creative and age-appropriate ways to help children develop their understanding of inclusion. For example, she uses stories about an elephant to explore similarities and differences in colour. Children show their interest and curiosity in their exploration of individuality. They learn to value the uniqueness of others and celebrate diversity. n The childminder supports children with special educational needs and/or disabilities extremely well. She and her assistant undertake training to support children's individual developmental needs. The childminder works in close partnership with local childminders, nurseries, schools and other professionals. This help to support a consistent approach for children's care and education.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a good understanding of her safeguarding role. She and her assistant are trained as lead practitioners for safeguarding. They also keep their knowledge updated through ongoing training. The childminder has clear policies and procedures in place to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. She understands the importance of making timely referrals for early help and sharing information with other professionals to protect children from harm. The childminder carries out regular checks of her home and garden, to help provide a safe environment for children.
