p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare and the local reporting procedures to follow. She regularly assesses risks in all areas used by children to minimise any potential hazards. The childminder regularly practises fire drills with children to help them learn about keeping themselves safe. The childminder reflects on her practice to identify strengths and where areas can be improved. For example, she has recently purchased a storage unit to help children see and select resources and activities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children as they play and assesses their progress to help ensure all of them achieve well. The childminder provides a range of challenging experiences to extend children's learning to a high level. For example, older children enthusiastically look for letters hidden in soapy water and the youngest children confidently negotiate steps as they climb a slide outdoors. The childminder extends children's learning well. For example, she asks children a good range of questions, labels objects and comments on their play to further support their experiences and play activities. The childminder consistently interacts with all children. Older children keenly talk about family experiences and younger children use single words and gestures.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Young children settle very quickly. They independently explore their new surroundings and investigate many exciting activities. All children have built warm relationships with the childminder. Children regularly give the childminder lots of cuddles. They are emotionally secure. Children have a strong sense of belonging and sense of themselves. The childminder displays many photographs of children and their families in her home. She helps children to begin to respect each other's differences and similarities. Older children imitate everyday family events during pretend play. They use their imaginations well. For example, as they change a baby doll's nappy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children begin to develop early mathematical skills well. For example, young children learn about shapes and sizes as they attempt to fit shapes into a shape sorter. Older children confidently count using their fingers and recognise numbers during art and craft activities. Young children excitedly anticipate repeated sounds as they begin to learn how to operate technology toys. All children are developing good skills to help prepare them for their future learning. They make good progress in their learning from when they first start.
