p.1
The provision is good
Children are extremely happy and content in the childminder's care. They confidently engage in the wide range of activities that she provides for them within her home. Children go on trips and outings in the local area. They make choices over their play and learning as they suggest activities. Children transport toys and resources from the playroom to the lounge to facilitate their games. They are creative and build models, such as unicorns and rainbows, with the linking bricks.
p.2
The provision is good
Children behave very well. They are caring and respectful towards each other. Children understand the childminder's house rules. For example, they know that they need to wash their hands before they eat and when they have completed a messy activity. Children help to clear away the toys to make space for the next activity or game. Children thoroughly enjoy participating in a singing and actions session. They confidently wiggle and jump when prompted by the words in the song. Children enjoy listening as the childminder enthusiastically reads them stories. They join in with their favourite parts and name the pictures and shapes in the book. Children frequently give each other hugs and show that they care for each other.

need to do better?
n Partnerships with parents are very good. Parents spoken to at the inspection and those who provide written testimonials speak very highly of the childminder and the attentive care she provides for their children. They comment on the helpful information she provides them with about their children's learning and development. n The childminder works effectively with other early years settings when children attend more than one provision. She meets with the key person of the other setting to share information about the children's learning during their time with her. n The childminder supported families through the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. She kept in regular contact with them. The childminder helped children to regain their confidence around others when they returned to her care after these periods of lockdown. n The childminder helps children to learn and to develop effectively. She has a very good understanding of the individual children's learning needs and plans

effectively for them. The childminder enables children to guide much of their own learning by including them in decision-making and giving them choices. n Children's self-care and independence are promoted effectively by the childminder. For example, she encourages them to learn about the importance of good handwashing. She helps them to use the water dispenser to get their own drinks and reminds them to put the cup under the tap. Children help to

need to do better?
24 January 2022 prepare their own lunch, for example, by spreading their cheese spread on their wrap and grating raw carrot. n Children use numbers, counting and shape recognition in their everyday play and activities. The childminder encourages them to match coloured items, such as the lids of different coloured pots. They line the pots up and count them. Children find shapes in the linking bricks that are the same as the ones in a storybook. n Children enjoy experimenting and helping to cook. They excitedly ask the childminder if they can 'make jelly'. She facilitates their ideas and encourages them to smell the jelly and to talk about how it feels, smells and looks. However, on occasions, the childminder does not make use of these activities to fully extend children's thinking. She often asks questions, but does not give the children time to consolidate their thinking before answering the question herself.
p.2
need to do better?
n Children participate in a wide and varied curriculum indoors. However, the childminder does not extend this learning so effectively outdoors. Children do attend indoor soft-play centres and visit the park and the library. However, they have fewer opportunities to learn and to explore outdoors in the winter months.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibilities with regards to safeguarding and protecting children. She regularly updates her safeguarding knowledge, for example, through training and childcare forums. The childminder recognises the signs that would alert her to a child being abused or mistreated, including being drawn into radicalisation. The childminder has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow, should she be concerned about a child.
p.3
should:
n develop further the quality of teaching to provide children with time to consolidate their thinking n extend opportunities for children who learn more effectively outdoors to experience a wide and varied curriculum throughout the year.
