children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judged that it has improved effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The one child living at the home is experiencing well-planned care from staff who are attentive and familiar with their needs. As a result, the child is making good progress. The social worker for the child was full of praise for the way that staff are helping the child to learn how to manage their emotions.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The child had recently returned to live at the home at the time of the full inspection. The measures which managers had put in place to keep the child safe have been effective and are now fully embedded into practice. Managers have demonstrated that there has been useful learning from the events which led to the child’s first stay ending in an unplanned way.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Over the festive period, staff provided a great deal of practical and emotional support to the child to enable them to spend time with a family member who was visiting from abroad. The registered manager kept the arrangements under close review and increased the frequency of contact when it was clear that the child was coping well. This flexibility ensured that the child could make the most of opportunities for family time.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff recruitment is an ongoing challenge. Leaders and managers are actively recruiting to fill care staff vacancies. In the interim, managers fill gaps on the rota themselves or with staff who work in the organisation’s other home. This ensures that there is no impact on the quality of care that the child receives. When the manager is carrying out direct work with children, senior leaders support with oversight of the home so that there are no shortfalls in management monitoring activities.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
At the full inspection in October 2021, seven requirements and one recommendation were made. Six of the requirements have been met and one is repeated. The repeated requirement is in relation to completing a review of the quality of care provided to children. The registered manager has not supplied a copy of the quality of care review report to the regulator.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Requirements addressed have included an improvement in the staff recruitment process. Managers now explore candidates’ reasons for leaving all positions involving work with children and vulnerable adults. This reduces the risk of unsuitable adults being employed to work at the home. All members of staff now receive supervision. As a result, their practice can be reflected upon, and there are records which show Inspection report for children’s home: 2591854 3 that the registered manager is making sure staff are working in line with the child’s care plan and risk assessments.
