p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager was registered with Ofsted in May 2020.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
Due to COVID-19, at the request of the Secretary of State, we suspended all routine inspections of social care providers carried out under the social care common inspection framework (SCCIF) on 17 March 2020. We returned to routine SCIFF inspections on 12 April 2021.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
We last visited this setting on 19 and 20 October 2021 to carry out a full inspection. The report is published on our website.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit took place to monitor the actions taken by the provider in relation to compliance notices served on 22 October 2021. The notices were served against regulation 12, the protection of children standard, regulation 13, the leadership and management standard, and regulation 14, the care planning standard.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, the registered manager has been absent from work. He has decided to step down from his post and therefore the organisation is seeking to recruit an experienced registered manager. The provider’s area manager is managing the home in the interim.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The leadership team has made progress to improve the quality of children’s risk management plans. Plans now reflect known and emerging risks to children and provide clear strategies for staff to follow to minimise these risks. The plans have been brought up to date with relevant information . They have been signed by staff to Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC483828 2 demonstrate they are aware of the action they are to take to ensure that children are kept safe
p.1
This monitoring visit
Risk management plans are in place for when children go missing from the home. Records of incidents demonstrate that staff are following the plans in place and are looking for children when they are missing from home. The area manager has demonstrated that she has had oversight of these records. Staff spoken to during this monitoring visit, were familiar with the plans in place and able to describe the steps they would take if a child was missing. Furthermore, children who have been missing from the home now have the opportunity to speak to someone independent on their return to the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The leadership team has taken steps to ensure that fire safety in the home is improved. Internal fire doors now provide adequate protection in the event of a fire. Fire exits are accessible to children to ensure that they would be able to safely leave the home in the event of an emergency.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff spoken to said that the area manager has been at the home frequently since the last inspection and that she is supportive. She is supported by a newly appointed deputy manager. Following the last visit, the area manager held a team meeting to share the findings of the inspection and the actions she is taking to address the shortfalls. The document for recording supervision and appraisals has been revised by the area manager; however, this is not yet embedded in practice.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The area manager has ensured that newly recruited staff have completed relevant training for their role. A new system is in place for the recording of staff training. This gives the management team clear oversight of which training has been completed and the timescales in which any refreshers are required.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The area manager has introduced systems to ensure that they have sufficient oversight of the home. Children’s files have been audited, with action plans in place to address any identified shortfalls. All children now have a local authority care plan on file.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Improvements have been made to the home environment and cleanliness. Repairs have been made to children’s bedrooms, and they have chosen items to personalise their rooms. During the visit contractors were at the home decorating the hallway. Although there is further work planned in the home, the improvements made already have made the home a nicer place for children to live.
p.2
This monitoring visit
A number of requirements were not explored as part of this monitoring visit and will be reviewed as part of the home’s next inspection. However, sufficient progress has been made for Ofsted to assess that the compliance notices have been met. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC483828 3
