The provision is good
Children are safe and happy in the inviting and homely setting. They eagerly join in with the activities on offer and excitedly play games with the childminder. For instance, children play a Christmas bingo game where they match different objects. They count how many objects they need to fill their card so that they can win the game and shout 'bingo'. Children are confident and sociable individuals, who are beginning to be aware of their own needs. They confidently ask the childminder for a drink and snack when they are thirsty or hungry.

The provision is good
Children have secure attachments with the childminder and are keen for her to join in with their play. As children draw pictures, they talk to the childminder about what they are drawing. The childminder is caring and nurturing. She has high expectations for all children. She gives them lots of praise and encouragement as they practise and develop new skills. This helps children to build their self-esteem. Children are well behaved and very polite. They are aware of the rules and boundaries in place and follow these well. When children have finished one activity, they help to tidy away before moving on to the next.

need to do better?
n The childminder gathers a range of information from parents before new children join her setting. For instance, she asks parents about children's routines, their development, what they like to do and their favourite foods. The childminder offers a range of settling-in sessions for new children so that they can get to know her and familiarise themselves with the setting. This helps children to settle quickly and to feel safe and secure when they start. n The childminder knows the individual personalities of the children she cares for well. She describes what children are interested in and knows where they are in their development through observing them as they play. The childminder provides children with a range of opportunities to help them to achieve their next steps in learning. However, these are often adult led and do not give children opportunities to direct their own play. n The childminder has clear aims for what she wants children to learn in all areas

of development. She wants children to be independent, confident and to have effective communication and social skills. The childminder understands how important it is for children to be active. Children engage in physical activities daily to develop their large and small muscles. n Children enjoy listening to stories and request that the childminder reads them over and over again. The childminder makes stories fun and interactive. She asks children questions to check their understanding. However, at times, she asks multiple questions and does not give children enough time to think and respond to one question before asking another.

need to do better?
9 December 2021 n The childminder uses the local area to provide children with a range of learning opportunities and new experiences. Children enjoy going for walks where they look at road signs, spot numbers and shapes and count different-coloured doors. They regularly attend playgroups to help them to develop their social skills and to build friendships with a range of different children. n Self-evaluation is effective. The childminder reflects on the activities and opportunities that she provides for children. She identifies what was successful and how she can improve her setting to meet children's needs or support their learning further. The childminder has plans to develop her outdoor area so that children can plant and grow their own vegetables, as they learn about nature and the natural world. n The childminder completes mandatory training, such as safeguarding and paediatric first aid, to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. She has good

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder knows how to keep children safe and has a good understanding of how to protect them from harm. She recognises when a child is at risk and knows who to contact, should she need to report any concerns. The childminder has recently completed safeguarding training to keep her knowledge up to date. She is aware of broader safeguarding issues, such as radicalisation and exploitation. The childminder carries out regular checks of her home and garden, to help provide a safe environment for children. The premises are secure and well organised.
