There is currently no registered manager in post. The provider has recruited a manager who has applied to become registered with Ofsted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit took place to monitor compliance with three notices that were served following the centre’s full inspection on 13 October 2021.
p.1
This monitoring visit
A compliance notice was served in relation to the registered person providing suitable admissions to the centre. To improve the quality of care, the provider has reviewed the initial pre-placement plans. It now fully considers whether the needs of families being placed in the residential family centre can be met by the skills and experience of the staff team. If additional training is required by staff, the provider identifies this and ensures that staff receive the appropriate training prior to admission. Staff spoken to were familiar with the pre-placement plans and said that it was useful to have clear expectations of the needs of the families prior to their admission to the centre.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The service manager was able to show the inspector a detailed pre-placement plan which prepared the staff and family for a recent new placement, albeit in another centre operated by the company. This is due to the centre accepting no further admissions until it had the time to meet the three compliance notices. Inspection report for residential family centre – monitoring visit: Foundations Wigan 2 The second compliance notice related to staff’s knowledge and understanding of their learning needs. This was validated through team meetings and workshops. Through these meetings and workshops, the management team was able to consider the team’s roles and responsibilities in ensuring that the needs of the families were met. The staff had worked together to discuss areas of risk and strategies to ensure that pre-placement planning was robust and risk-assessed. As a result, the staff team has improved the quality of its admissions procedure.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Further work has been completed on the method of identifying and assessing potential risks prior to accepting placements, and rationale has been provided as to why families will be able to live with each other safely.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The third compliance notice related to the poor maintenance of the environment. The inspector toured the building to check that the showers, taps and radiators were fully functional and that they provided water and heat at an appropriate temperature. The centre was in a good state of repair. The leadership of the home has improved in relation to monitoring the quality of maintenance; it is more robust, with clear management oversight. Senior managers have systems in place which ensure that building tasks are completed and that prompt action is taken to remedy any issues identified.
p.2
This monitoring visit
All compliance notices are deemed to have been met following this inspection. The requirements that were not subject to compliance and the recommendation made at the previous inspection were not considered during this monitoring visit. These will remain in place until the centre’s next full inspection. Inspection report for residential family centre – monitoring visit: Foundations Wigan 3
