p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children are not safeguarded in this nursery. The provider has failed to carry out enhanced criminal records checks for all staff who work with children. Staff and managers fail to respond to risks to children's safety. Staff and managers do not know enough about children's individual needs to keep them safe. For example, they do not obtain clear information about children's allergies. The nursery does not have clear procedures in place to safeguard children should they suffer an allergic reaction in their care.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Some children arrive at nursery very unsettled. Staff offer little comfort or emotional support. They are not responsive to children who say they 'hurt' and fail to provide children with experiences they are interested in to help engage them in play. Consequently, some children spend a lot of their time upset.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The quality of provision for children is poor. Staff do not provide children with quality learning experiences that take account of their interests and development. Staff's expectations of children are unrealistic. For example, they sit children alone and repeatedly ask them to identify letters on a flashcard. Some children are unable to achieve this and they become bored and distracted. Staff persist in asking children to recognise letters and do not consider the negative impact this may have on children's confidence and self-esteem.
p.2
need to do better?
n Leaders and managers lack knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage. They have a poor oversight of the quality of provision for children. As a result, there are many breaches of requirements which impacts negatively on the care and education children receive. n Managers do not ensure children are kept safe. They are not alert to risks in the environment. Staff fail to respond when they, and children, trip over mats where their edges have curled, which could cause an accident or injury. They do not ensure that cleaning chemicals are stored out of reach of children. This puts children at risk of harm. n Managers have failed to act upon information from parents about children's allergies and dietary requirements. They are aware of allergies children have, however they have not obtained sufficient information from parents about signs

that could indicate a child is having an allergic reaction. They do not know if any medication is required for these children. This significantly compromises the safety of children. n Managers have not ensured that recruitment and vetting procedures are robust. They lack knowledge and understanding of how to assess staff's suitability to

need to do better?
29 November 2021 work with children. The provider has not carried out enhanced criminal records checks for all staff working with children. This means that children are not safeguarded. n The provider has not ensured that staff have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to fulfil their roles. Managers are unable to identify weaknesses in teaching. This means that they do not provide effective supervision to identify the support and training that staff require to bring about the necessary improvement to raise the quality of provision. n The curriculum for children is poor. The manager does not help staff to understand how children develop. As a result, staff do not know what children need to learn first. Their expectations of children are unrealistic. The activities planned for children do not help them to make progress in their learning and development. n Staff lack knowledge and understanding about the areas of learning they teach.
p.2
need to do better?
They focus solely on children learning letters and numbers, regardless of their current age and stage of development. They do not have enough consideration for other skills that children need to develop in preparation for the next stage in their learning. n Children do not demonstrate a positive attitude towards their learning. Staff expect children sit down at the same activity for long periods of time. Children become bored. They lack motivation because activities provided do not interest them or are too challenging for them. n The key-person system is weak. Staff do not obtain enough information about children to meet their individual needs. They do not respond when children are upset, and they lack knowledge about their interests. Key persons fail to exchange information with parents, in order to help build settled relationships for children. n Staff do not provide effective support for children who have English as an

additional language. Some children have limited use of English. Staff, including their key person, do not know what children's home languages are. They do not have any strategies in place to help children communicate. This means they are unable to meet children's needs. n Staff fail to provide children with regular access to outdoor provision. This means that children do not gain opportunities for fresh air and exercise, which impacts on their health and well-being. n Managers have not implemented effective systems for maintaining an accurate record of children's hours of attendance. This impacts on the safeguarding of children.

That said, staff and managers understand child protection procedures.
