p.1

Information about this children’s home

This is a privately owned home. It provides care and accommodation for up to six children between the ages of 10 to 17. It is set over two buildings on the same site. The children have emotional, behavioural and social difficulties and/or learning disabilities.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is led by an experienced and registered manager.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit took place because the provider received a complaint about the care being provided to a child. The concerns were in relation to behaviour management practices by the manager and staff. Ofsted was concerned over the thoroughness of managers’ responses to the complaint.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit did not identify any immediate concerns to children. The complaint has been investigated by the provider and it has learned valuable lessons in some areas of its practice. Leaders and managers quickly developed an action plan in relation to the areas of the complaint which were upheld, following the investigation.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Several important actions have been implemented, including:

p.1

This monitoring visit

 the registered manager has ensured that the staff have received additional training and bespoke learning to meet a child’s identified needs  there has been a review of the behaviour management planning for children to increase oversight and scrutiny for all incidents in the home  in response to the behavioural needs of one child, his individual behaviour management plan has been revised and improved to meet his needs. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 1257013 2 The child, who was central to the complaint, has settled since improvements have been made. There has been a reduction in the frequency and severity of incidents. The child said that the staff are helping him manage his behaviour in different ways, for example through use of their sensory room. This has greatly benefited the child and he is developing much more positive and strong bonds with staff.

p.1

This monitoring visit

At the time of the monitoring visit, leaders and managers had not completed all actions identified from the investigation into the complaint. Senior managers have now rectified this because they recognise the importance of having robust systems in place to review and monitor the quality of care provided in the home.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The manager has ensured that the requirement set at the full inspection has been met. As a result, the physical environment of the home is now safer for children. The environment is a pleasant and welcoming environment that children can be proud of.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Staff remain motivated and committed to caring for the children. They continue to receive good support, oversight and guidance from the manager.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The manager is well respected by the staff. The staff feel that she is approachable, and they can seek advice and support at any time. Their training and development needs continue to be met and they receive regular, professional and reflective supervision that challenges, stimulates and enthuses staff to do a good job for children.
