This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judged that it has sustained effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home was registered with Ofsted in June 2020. The manager resigned in January 2021. An acting manager was quickly recruited but he withdrew his application in July 2021. Another acting manager has been recruited and she took up her post in August 2021. She has applied to Ofsted to be the registered manager.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children are at different stages in engaging with support systems within the home. Some children have disengaged because they are due to leave the home soon. However, staff continue to encourage and support children through this difficult period. The staff maintain positive relationships with children and are clearly aware of the triggers which can affect children’s emotional responses. During these times, the staff support children appropriately and sensitively.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Some children have restrictions on their liberty. However, the children understand why the restrictions have been imposed by the courts. A child said, ‘The restrictions make me feel safe.’ The staff ensure that these restrictions do not have an impact on other children’s freedom in the home. A social worker confirmed this.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
All significant incidents are clearly recorded and shared with the children’s social workers, safeguarding professionals and their parents. When necessary, the manager has initiated strategy meetings. Additional safeguarding measures have been put in place, such as increased staffing levels, to meet the needs of all the children.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Investigations, strategy meetings and disruption meetings are arranged quickly. Good records are kept showing the actions taken, the involvement of all agencies and the outcomes. This ensures that all procedures are followed. However, safeguarding notifications to Ofsted have not always been sent in a timely manner and some of the information has been unclear. This was a requirement at the last full inspection and has been repeated.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children are in good health. When children refuse to attend health appointments, the staff use inventive ways to ensure that they get the service they need. For example, when a child refused to attend a smoking cessation clinic, three staff attended so that they could deliver the information to the child. This shows that staff invest in the children’s health.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children said that they can speak with staff about any worries or concerns that they may have. Generally, all complaints are concluded to the satisfaction of the children Inspection report children's home: 2590699 3 and the professionals involved in their care. However, a recent complaint was not handled in line with the home’s complaints policy and procedure. This does not ensure that children have a good response to their concerns.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Professionals speak highly of the service. A social worker said, ‘The child has progressed really well considering his starting point.’ Another social worker said, ‘It has been a difficult time, but we work together. I cannot thank the home enough.’ Good internal and external monitoring systems ensure that the acting manager is fully up to date with the progress that children make, and this further supports her with identifying additional areas for continued development.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Most of the requirements and recommendations from the previous inspection have been sufficiently addressed. The independent visitor’s monitoring of the home has improved. Records now clearly document the date and the author of the record, which strengthens the monitoring of children’s progress. Children’s files have been restructured and are more accessible. Children’s risk assessments now include clear actions for staff to take. The impact risk assessment has been amended. It now includes a section on risks within the local area. There is a workforce plan which can fulfil the workforce-related requirements of regulation 16, schedule 1. Inspection report children's home: 2590699 4
