Children arrive happily, and are eager to engage in activities. They are encouraged to join in at 'circle time', where everyone says their name, for example so that they get to know each other. Staff provide good support to any child who is new or feeling hesitant. This helps children to settle in quickly and creates a positive atmosphere. Children feel valued as they participate in drawing up the rules for the club, and are included in decision-making. For example, children are able to suggest games or activities they would like to take part in. Children's behaviour is very good.

This provision meets requirements
Children make independent choices about their play in the spacious indoor environment. They engage for long periods of time creating their own pictures, using colouring pencils and scissors to cut materials. They enjoy a variety of board or other games, where they learn about turn taking and the rules of the different games. Children's physical development is promoted well. They are eager to play outside, and enjoy team games, such as dodgeball. Children listen well to instructions, and encourage their friends by cheering them on when they take part. Children also accept when they have been 'tagged' and are out. Children are free to join other activities if they do not wish to participate in the team games. Younger children, for instance, have immense fun building up a 'marble run'. This challenges their thinking skills as they connect pieces together and predict whether the marbles will roll down the structure.

n Parents comment that they are very pleased with the club. Some parents have used the club during the recent summer holidays, and say that the staff are very friendly and keep them informed about their child's day. n Staff model positive behaviours. As a result, children are polite and well mannered. They understand the rules about putting their hand up during group discussions to ensure everyone has a chance to speak. Children play cooperatively together, taking turns and sharing. n Children thoroughly enjoy taking part in quizzes. For example, older children happily sit with younger children in teams, and have great fun answering questions. This creates lots of laughter, and is an enjoyable experience. n The manager and staff team are passionate about providing a high-quality and inclusive service. They meet every morning to discuss the plans for the day. During this time, they consider the children's individual needs and whether any

25 October 2021 work closely together to ensure the premises are suitable, and that the club can run smoothly. For example, all staff can access the internet when required. n The staff team works well together. The club operates a key-person system for the youngest children. This helps these children to settle into new surroundings, and ensures their needs are met. n Staff report that they have good training opportunities with the company. They say the induction process is thorough and covers all aspects of their roles and responsibilities. For example, they have undertaken safeguarding and food hygiene training. Further training courses are accessible to all staff to support their professional development. n Children are provided with a packed lunch from home. Guidance is given to parents on the website about healthy options to include in their child's lunch. Regular snack breaks are incorporated into the day to ensure children are well

nourished. Children are encouraged to drink water regularly, especially before and after physical activity. n Good hygiene practices are in place. Children understand about regular handwashing, and are independent in these tasks. The manager has an agreement with the host school that if they need to prepare any food, the staff can use the school kitchen. This helps to ensure good hygiene practices are followed. n Children's safety is a high priority at the club, and staff supervise children well. The arrangements for drop off and collection have changed due to the COVID- 19 pandemic. Children are met at the gate in the morning, and are escorted to the gate, where they meet their parents at the end of the day.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
Staff have a good understanding of how to protect children. They understand the correct actions to take should they be concerned about a child's welfare. They understand their responsibilities for reporting any concerns, if they were worried about the conduct of a colleague. All staff receive regular safeguarding training to keep their knowledge up to date. The manager and staff team complete daily checks on the premises and equipment to ensure all areas of the club are safe and secure. The ratio of staff to children is appropriate, and staff supervise children effectively.
