Inspection of Our Little Angelz (2) 47-51, Glebe Farm Road, Birmingham B33 9NP

p.1

Overall effectiveness Good

The quality of education Good Behaviour and attitudes Good Personal development Good Leadership and management Good Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Good

p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and feel secure in the warm and friendly environment provided by the staff. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parents have not been able to enter the premises. However, children still show that they are settled, as they move around the nursery with ease and are familiar with their surroundings. They independently help themselves to toys that capture their interest and quickly become engaged in their chosen activity.

p.2

The provision is good

Children benefit from a well-resourced environment with a range of exciting play opportunities and resources, which encourage them to explore and motivate them to learn. Babies and young children confidently discover different textures, such as rice pudding and play dough. Older children enthusiastically explore a good range of natural materials to help to develop their understanding of the world. Children have lots of fun as they play with spaghetti, paint, glitter and sand. They eagerly use tools, such as spades and scoops, to dig for dinosaurs.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well. They listen to the staff and are able to take turns with the resources independently. Staff understand the importance of singing songs and rhymes to support babies' communication and language skills. They sing songs throughout the day that reflect children's actions and interests.

n The manager understands what she wants the children to learn and experience at the nursery. She has a clear view of how children's learning develops over time as they progress through the nursery. This knowledge is used to create a curriculum that builds on what children already know and can do. n Staff gather useful information from parents when children start to attend the nursery. Staff use this information, their own observations and children's interests to plan activities. However, sometimes, the planned next steps for children's learning are too broad. This means staff are not able to plan precisely enough to offer the highest levels of challenge and help children make the best possible progress. n Staff working with children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are knowledgeable and work closely with parents and other professionals. They provide targeted support to meet children's specific needs. All children make

good progress in their development from their starting points, in readiness for the next stage of their learning. n Children develop physical skills through a wide range of experiences. Young children develop muscle control and coordination as they complete jigsaws and use musical instruments. Older children empty and fill containers and they happily splash in water to wash dolls. Children of all ages take turns to use the

They comment that they feel well informed about their child's day and their progress in learning. Children's daily activities and ideas to support home learning are shared through the internet. Parents comment positively about the information they receive. Parents state that their children are happy to attend and that they grow in confidence and independence. They believe their children are safe and well cared for. n Children are developing a broad range of skills to support their move to school. They engage busily and eagerly in their play. Staff readily engage children in conversations. Their positive interactions help to promote children's communication and language skills. Children like listening to stories and looking at books throughout the day. They enjoy drawing, writing their names and have

good opportunities to be creative. Staff join in with children and they encourage simple counting as children play. n Staff promote equality and diversity by ensuring all children are treated with respect and their individual needs are met. Children have equal access to play opportunities and their individual likes and dislikes are recognised. n The provider and manager review the quality of the nursery regularly and they clearly place an importance on staff well-being. They monitor staff practice and provide training and guidance. They are aware, however, of the need to increase the focus of staff's professional development on raising their good teaching practice to a higher level.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Staff have a good knowledge of child protection issues, including the wider aspects of safeguarding. They understand their roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe and how to refer any concerns that they may have. Staff have a clear understanding of what to do if any allegation is made against a member of staff, or if they have concerns about a colleague's conduct. There are thorough recruitment and vetting procedures in place to help assess the suitability of staff.

p.3

should:

n enhance children's planned next steps in learning to more precisely challenge and extend their learning n increase the focus of staff's professional development to help to raise the quality of teaching even higher.
