p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children thrive in the extremely warm, welcoming and inclusive setting. They benefit from highly impressive individual settling-in arrangements. The childminder ensures she understands the unique needs of each child. She visits children at home prior to them attending her setting. She gathers information from parents about children's development, routines, likes and preferences. This helps to support children's emotional development and build secure attachments. Children settle exceptionally well and are very happy and safe in the childminder's care.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children have access to an excellent variety of fiction and non-fiction books. The childminder reads to children in a way that excites and engages them. For example, she uses different voices to represent a pirate and a parrot when reading stories to children. Children demonstrate comprehensive attention and listening skills as the childminder reads to them. They accurately predict what might happen next in the story and make links to their own experiences. This is illustrated when they see a crab in a book. Children excitedly tell the childminder that they put meat in a net and caught five crabs when they went to the seaside.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children have incredible fun in the highly stimulating environment. The childminder provides children with a selection of valuable learning experiences, that motivate them to become independent learners. Children demonstrate an extremely good attitude to learning. They concentrate, enjoy the activities and are eager to participate.

The childminder plans activities that build on children's interest and strengthen their knowledge and understanding. For instance, children delight in drawing treasure maps and learn how to use wet teabags to make these look old. n The childminder is exceptionally committed to her role. She meticulously assesses and analyses children's learning, to identify their individual needs and what they need to learn next. This helps her to quickly identify children who may need additional support. She is proactive in implementing plans to help children to progress. All children, including those who need targeted support, receive the help they need and make significant progress in their development.

These positive interactions provide opportunities to challenge them. Children acquire a can-do attitude and develop skills to prepare them for their next stage in learning. n The childminder uses every opportunity to encourage children to develop their imagination and creative skills. During play, they notice when others need more resources and offer these without being prompted. n The childminder places a strong focus on teaching children the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Children regularly play outdoors and follow robust hygiene practices. The childminder makes good use of books to prompt discussions about the importance of oral health.
