The provision is good

New children settle quickly in the childminder's care. They are happy, content and comfortable. Children feel safe and secure with the childminder. They smile and speak confidently, even when a visitor is present. Children move freely around the childminder's home, accessing toys and activities. They return to the childminder for a reassuring cuddle. Children's self-assurance grows as the childminder gently encourages them. The childminder uses clear and positive language to praise them. Children enjoy spending time with the childminder and her husband, who works alongside her as an assistant.

The provision is good

The childminder supports the needs and interests of children of different ages effectively. She is a positive role model and treats children with kindness and respect. The provision is good

The childminder recognises that some children may need extra support following the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. n The childminder and her assistant know the children well. They are clear on what children need to learn and why. The childminder talks with parents and observes the children to develop a secure understanding of children's skills and abilities. She uses this information to provide a broad curriculum so that children make good progress. For example, the childminder plans activities to develop children's early writing skills. Children express themselves creatively, using spring onions as paint brushes to mix green and red paint together. Children are enthusiastic and have a positive attitude to their learning. n Children enjoy learning together as a group. They follow instructions well and cut fruit carefully to make smoothies. The childminder and her assistant interact warmly with children and ask questions during group activities. Children discuss what ingredients to use and the different colours. This helps to raise children's self-esteem. n The childminder spends additional funding wisely, supporting the individual needs of children. Visits to a local farm and kayak lessons are some of the many opportunities that children have accessed through funding while with the childminder.
