p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and safe in this welcoming and homely environment. They are keen to play with the resources and activities set out for them or select something different from the storage boxes in the playroom. Children are ready to learn and explore their surroundings as they move through rooms and into the garden. They are familiar and confident with routines at the setting and independence is encouraged.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's good health and well-being is promoted effectively. Snacks and meals are nutritious, drinks readily available and good oral hygiene is encouraged. Older children manage their self-care skills well, such as hand-sanitising and toileting. Younger children rest or sleep when needed. They are frequently checked and bedding is in good condition, hygienically maintained and suited to the age and stage of each child.

p.2

The provision is good

All children build close relationships with each other and with the adults who care for them. During the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the childminder moved to a new house and shared pictures of the new environment with children and their families to help them adapt to the change. She kept in regular contact with families and children who did not attend. This helped children to settle into the new setting when they returned to the childminder's care.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children's learning and development is supported effectively. The childminder and her assistants get to know the children well. They understand what children already know and can do and have high expectations. A clear and coherently planned educational programme is provided to help enrich children's learning and development. n Children are eager to use their existing knowledge and understanding. They talk about their favourite animals and what they have seen in fields, farms or at the safari park. Some children then use their increasing vocabulary and their imaginations as they describe and create pretend creatures. n At times, the childminder and her assistants do not make the most of opportunities to involve all children in the experiences provided. Some younger and less confident children are not as engaged or able to build on and enhance their learning as much as their peers. n The childminder and her assistants are effective role models. Children are well

behaved, polite and play cooperatively with each other. They learn to manage their own feelings and have an increasing awareness of the effect their actions have on others. n There is good partnership working with staff at other settings that children

24 September 2021 attend. They exchange relevant information about the children's interests and achievements and share ideas for experiences that can be extended across settings and elsewhere. Parents and carers are actively involved too. The children were recently given bags to take home and fill with 'Autumn treasures'. They have taken these 'treasures' to nursery school to talk about and show their friends and are eager to use them in varied activities at the childminder's setting. n The childminder and assistants complete required training, including paediatric first aid and child protection. They also read information online relating to childminding practice, to help them develop new knowledge and understanding. Together, they have reviewed and started to implement the changes to the statutory guidance effectively. They are dedicated and share ambition to provide the highest quality care and education. However, there is scope for greater focus

on supervisions and professional development, to help enhance their already good practice and raise the overall quality of provision for children. n All required information and records, such as parents' consent for varied purposes, are in place. Policies and procedures are updated and shared with parents effectively, to help ensure the smooth and consistent running of the setting. n Parents speak very highly of the childminder and her assistants. They express how well children are supported and how much they appreciate the care and nurture their children receive. Parents value the relationships they and their children have with the childminder and her assistants and are all happy to recommend them to friends and family.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder and her assistants have a good understanding of the current local procedures to protect children from harm. Following a recent incident while on an outing, they have developed much more stringent assessments of potential risks to children's safety. This is particularly evident during school runs where the childminder and assistants deploy themselves effectively. They ensure children are supervised well and remain within their sight and hearing. Children learn to stay close to the adults and look out for cars to check if it is safe to cross the road. They wear high-visibility jackets and adults ensure that children hold hands or onto the pushchair and walk on the side furthest away from the road. Children also learn how to manage some risks with gentle reminders and are caring and considerate of one another during play.

p.3

should:

24 September 2021 n implement more effective ways to help younger and less confident children to engage further and benefit fully from the learning opportunities provided n build on the systems for supervision and professional development to enrich the culture of mutual support, strengthen knowledge and skills and raise the quality of the provision to an even higher level.
