p.1
The provision is good
Children feel safe and settle well. The childminder creates an environment where children are excited and eager to explore. The childminder gathers detailed information from parents when their children start at the setting. She uses this effectively, overall, to plan activities and opportunities that support individual children's needs. The childminder has a range of resources that children are able to independently access. She allows children to choose the toys they want to play with and gives them time to explore them before stepping in to support. For instance, when children choose to play with an inset board puzzle, the childminder sits back and lets them explore where the pieces fit in the board. When required, she provides simple instructions such as 'turn', 'up' and 'down' to guide the children in how to complete the puzzle.
p.2
The provision is good
Children behave very well. The childminder has clear expectations for children's behaviour and makes good use of praise and reward when they follow the rules of the setting. For example, children smile and clap when they are praised for helping to tidy up the activities they have played with, before moving on to the next.

need to do better?
n Children's communication and language development is very well supported. The childminder demonstrates a sound understanding of how to develop children's vocabulary, particularly children who speak English as an additional language. She focuses on repetition of simple words to support children's use of initial letter sounds. The childminder uses this effectively to each children the names of animals and colours, and to provide them with simple instructions. The focus on these simple words and instructions is consistent throughout all activities. This means that children are continuously supported in their language development. n Younger children smile and babble to the childminder as they build a tower with building blocks. The childminder responds well to them, providing a narrative to their play and role modelling conversation skills. n The childminder has an ambitious vision for children's development. She uses

the information gained from parents when children join the setting to assess what children already know and can do. The childminder is well equipped to provide activities to children that she knows they will be able to achieve. There are times, however, where some children could be given more opportunity to use trial and error in their play. This would even further challenge their thinking and extend their learning and development. n New children are very well settled with the childminder and build strong relationships with her. They confidently bring resources over to her and gesture for her to join in their play. Children hold out a microphone to the childminder

22 September 2021 when they want her to sing with them. This demonstrates that they feel safe and secure in the childminding setting. n The childminder teaches children how to use simple tools and resources. She demonstrates how they work and encourages children to try it for themselves. For example, children use their hands to try and push wooden pieces into their stand. The childminder uses the small wooden hammer to show them how this can be used to achieve the same goal, and passes it to them to try. n Professional development is a key focus for the childminder. She accesses training and resources provided by the local authority to widen her knowledge and develop her skills. She also ensures mandatory training, such as paediatric first aid, is kept up to date. n The childminder uses a range of methods to communicate with parents and keep them up to date with their children's learning and development. includes parents who are not able to come to the setting to drop off and collect their child. The childminder uses electronic methods to share information and photos so that all parents are kept informed.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
Systems to support children's safety and welfare are well embedded. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments of her environment to ensure that children are safe. She demonstrates a clear understanding of signs and symptoms that children may be at risk of harm, including issues related to the 'Prevent' duty and safeguarding risks in the local area. Her ability to recognise when to be concerned and her sound knowledge of reporting procedures mean that she is able to act swiftly, should any concerns arise.
