p.1

The provision is good

The childminder has a very friendly and caring manner and children form wonderfully beneficial bonds with her. They are happy and really enjoy her company. They eagerly seek her out to play their favourite games and share their achievements, or for cuddles. Children gain confidence in themselves and their abilities and thrive in her care.

p.2

The provision is good

Young children develop their sense of responsibility and independence skills excellently. They confidently select their own resources and activities in the playroom, relishing the freedom to do this. They take these over to the little table or roll out a mat and place these on the floor. After lunch, they conscientiously put their booster seat away. Children develop very good manners. They listen respectfully to the childminder adapting their behaviour appropriately. For example, they roll the hard, heavier ball along the ground rather than throwing it. They show considerable understanding and develop very positive attitudes towards learning and doing things for themselves.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has adapted her provision and support for families during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Her video messages and 'doorstep activities' for the children provided an essential lifeline during periods of national lockdown. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder and her wealth of experience. They value the advice and support that she has given them and their children.

n The childminder has a wealth of experience, and an in-depth understanding of how children learn. She meticulously outlines any gaps in their development. She creates a well-thought-out plan of what she wants them to achieve and how she will use resources to support their learning. Children make excellent progress and gain the skills they will need for the next stage of their education. n The childminder offers children very interesting experiences, to develop their understanding of other countries of the world. They sing songs focused on other languages and continents. They explore Indian statues and excitedly wear an Indian bindi decoration, looking at their reflection in the mirror with fascination. n Children have good opportunities to be active in the fresh air and learn about Nature. They enjoy helping the childminder grow and harvest a variety of fruit and vegetables. They proudly show off the large pumpkins, and excitedly sample

They work excellently at activities, matching and fitting shapes correctly and filling items using appropriate utensils. n The childminder is skilful in supporting children's communication. She explains the meanings of words, provides commentary, and asks probing questions, to encourage their language. She listens to them and gives them time to speak. She has a very engaging and friendly manner and children develop their conversation skills excellently. The childminder provides a rich environment with many opportunities for children to develop their literacy skills. They readily select their favourite books and listen avidly as the childminder reads to them. n The childminder obtains lots of information from parents when they first start.

However, sometimes her ongoing communication and arrangements with parents do not help her to flexibly tailor her approach, to meet new children's needs to the highest level. Nonetheless, parents comment very positively on how well the childminder keeps them informed about their child's day, discussing the wide variety of means, such as messages and daily chats. They also appreciate the periodic meetings to closely focus on children's learning, helping support a consistent approach at home and in her provision. n The childminder is enthusiastic, motivated and fully committed to her provision. She undertakes a range of training, reading and research to continue to enhance her provision. She also works closely with local authority advisors and shares her outstanding Montessori focused teaching and activities with other childminders.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder takes her responsibility to safeguard children seriously. She has an in-depth understanding of the child protection issues that may affect children's well-being and welfare and knows the correct procedure to follow to keep children safe. She ensures she keeps abreast of any changes and refreshes her knowledge by undertaking relevant child protection training regularly. The childminder completes regular risk assessments to help ensure that all areas of her home used by children are safe. She closely monitors children as they play, offering prompt sensitive reminders to help them learn about hazards and risks and adapt their action accordingly.
