p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and enjoy the time they spend with the childminder. Effective settling-in procedures are in place and the childminder knows the children well. She has caring and positive relationships with them. When children first start, the childminder works closely with parents to gather detailed information about their care needs. This enables her to follow their routines from home and to quickly settle children into her care and provide consistency.

p.2

The provision is good

Children take part in a variety of interesting and challenging learning experiences, indoors and outdoors. For example, they thoroughly enjoy planting sweet peas in the childminder's garden and eagerly talk about this experience. The childminder understands that children learn in different ways and at different rates. She recognises what children can already do to identify next steps in their learning accurately. Children's behaviour is good. They listen and respond well to the childminder and cheerfully follow routines, such as washing their hands and tidying up their toys. The childminder gives children continuous encouragement and praise for their achievements.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are curious and delight in learning new things. They enjoy many opportunities that help them to develop an understanding of the world around them. For example, the childminder takes children on regular outings to learn about nature and they explore different places of interest. Children observe and count slugs on the grass and comment on how they 'wriggle' and 'squirm' when they move. This helps to build on their awareness of the wider world.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children take part in activities with enthusiasm. They develop confidence in their abilities and enjoy sharing their efforts and achievements. For example, they show pride in the drawings that they create and talk about what they have done and the marks they have made. n The childminder gets to know the children well. She plans a broad and varied curriculum, which reflects their individual interests. The childminder engages with children during child-initiated play and asks questions and comments on what they are doing. For example, the childminder asks, 'What would you like to make?' as children pretend to cook. However, children sometimes lose concentration and move quickly from one activity to another. They, occasionally, require more direction from the childminder to sustain concentration and focus during self-chosen activities. n The childminder listens and responds to what children say. She acknowledges

their comments and repeats words correctly. This helps children become confident talkers. However, the childminder, occasionally, ,misses opportunities

need to do better?

15 September 2021 to introduce new words, to help broaden children's vocabularies further. n The childminder provides many opportunities for children to develop their mathematics skills. For example, she uses number names and number language as children play and introduces shapes and simple counting. This helps children to begin to develop an understanding of simple mathematical concepts. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder provides parents with frequent updates about their children's progress and activities. Parents speak very highly of the care their children receive and the service that she provides. n The childminder reflects well on her practice and adopts a positive attitude towards making improvements. She seeks the views of parents and children, and takes account of their suggestions. This helps her to identify any areas to improve and develop.

p.2

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of her role in safeguarding children. She is confident to identify and swiftly respond to safeguarding concerns in an appropriate manner, if required. Her safeguarding policy further supports her good practice. The childminder has suitable procedures in place and attends training to make sure her knowledge is up to date. She implements clear policies and procedures and ensures that her premises is secure. The childminder regularly assesses risks in her home or when outdoors to minimise any hazards. This helps to keep children safe.

p.3

should:

n build on opportunities for children to sustain their concentration and focus during child-initiated activities n introduce a wider range of words during children's play more consistently, to help broaden their vocabularies.
