p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children are not provided with a curriculum that supports them to learn and develop well enough. The childminder does not assess their learning accurately or plan activities and experiences that focus on what they need to learn next. She does not interact effectively enough with the younger children to support their speech and language development. Many of the activities she provides do not offer appropriate challenge for individual children. For example, children who are nearly three play with shape sorters but quickly lose interest as they are able to easily complete this activity.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. They enjoy the company of the childminder and her assistant. However, children are not taught how to behave well and they have regular disagreements over toys. The childminder and her assistant are not consistent in managing children's behaviour. For example, they do not always talk to the children about what is expected or correct them when they do something they should not do, such as snatch a toy.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children are not kept safe. The childminder does not carry out thorough risk assessments on her home or recognise hazards. For example, the wooden ramp which children use to access the garage to play is wet and slippery. Children continually slip and fall over as they come down the ramp, but the childminder does not take steps to make it safe. The childminder has failed to notify Ofsted of all adults working on the premises, which means that children are left in the care of unvetted adults.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The childminder remained open during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. She has adapted her practice to try to minimise the impact of the virus on children and their families. For example, she uses hand sanitiser and keeps the environment clean.
p.2
need to do better?
n Risk assessments are not effective and the childminder does not supervise children adequately. For example, during the inspection, young children struggled to get themselves onto the swing in the garden. The childminder was not nearby to support children and, as a consequence, they fell from the swing and bumped their head on the floor. The childminder and her assistant did not see what happened as they were not supervising the children appropriately. n The childminder does not ensure that all assistants are suitable to work with children. She has also failed to inform Ofsted about an apprentice who has started working with her. This means that Ofsted has not been able to complete checks to confirm their suitability. Children enjoy playing in different parts of the

10 August 2021 childminder's home. However, they are sometimes left in these areas with unchecked adults, which puts children at risk. n The childminder places children's health at risk. She does not always seek written permission from parents to administer medication and does not keep an accurate written record of medication administered to a child. Children are not protected when playing out in the sun as she does not apply sun cream to them. n Children are not motivated to learn. The childminder does not have a good enough understanding of how to plan and provide a broad and engaging curriculum. Children quickly become bored and their behaviour rapidly deteriorates. For example, older children climb onto the childminder's sofa and windowsill and the younger children copy this behaviour. The childminder does not stop the children from doing this. Instead, she picks the children up in her arms and moves them through the air, as she encourages them to sing a song

about an aircraft. This does not give children clear messages about how they should behave or help them to behave in a way that will help to keep them safe. n The childminder does not have an adequate understanding of children's learning needs. Although the childminder says that she is aware of some gaps in children's learning, she has not considered how she can help them make better progress. For example, children who are delayed in their speech and language development wander from one activity to another with little interaction from the childminder or her assistant. This does not help children to develop their communication skills or build on their vocabulary. n Children enjoy role play. They pretend to be hairdressers or have a picnic for the dolls. Some children listen to a story, looking at the pictures as the childminder reads. n The childminder keeps parents informed about their children's day. She sends

them pictures of their children during play and updates them of any changes.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
Children's safety is not protected as the childminder does not understand how to provide a safe environment for children. She has not risk assessed her premises sufficiently or removed hazards to keep children safe. The childminder does not supervise children effectively to help protect them from harm. The childminder does not ensure that those adults who have not been checked are not left unsupervised with children. The childminder has a suitable understanding of child protection procedures. She can recognise the signs or symptoms which might indicate a safeguarding concern and knows the reporting procedures to follow.
