p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children are highly engaged in their play. They make their own choices and establish their own ideas as they rapidly learn new concepts and solve problems. For example, children focus intently as they practise pouring the food colouring onto the dough and kneading it together. They investigate and explore how water moves as they repeatedly pour water down the three tier guttering chute and watch it come out the other end.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children are provided with lots of highly exciting, innovative opportunities to develop their physical skills of dexterity and coordination, needed for early writing. For example, children play with a toy that propels a ball into the air when they squeeze the trigger. They laugh and squeal as they squeeze the spray bottle and squirt water around the garden. Children develop superb control and coordination skills as they manoeuvre around the garden using wheeled toys.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children have amazing opportunities to learn about nature first-hand. They closely study the four empty chrysalises and exuberantly recall the life cycle of caterpillars. Children water, care for and monitor the growth of the strawberry plants and eagerly wait to eat the fruit.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder has very high expectations of children's behaviour, using an excellent range of strategies to support children's positive behaviour. As a result, children behave exceptionally well.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder offers a highly vibrant and stimulating curriculum based on children's interests and abilities. She is remarkably successful at promoting children's development across all areas of their learning. The childminder skilfully helps children to learn about the similarities and differences in people. For example, children explore a range of festivals around the calendar year and play with toys that depict positive images of diversity. The childminder provides a wide range of carefully selected resources that superbly fosters children's imagination and inspires them to learn different concepts through play. n The childminder's assessment of children's progress is comprehensive, accurate and very clear. She identifies and swiftly addresses any areas where children are not progressing as expected. Meticulously detailed progress checks for children between the ages of two and three years help to identify children who may need

additional support. This ensures all children make excellent progress from their starting points. n The childminder regularly takes the children on a range of exciting outings that promote children's understanding of the natural world extremely well.

19 July 2021 Additionally, these outings provide children with excellent opportunities to experience optimum physical challenge. For example, children feed the ducks at the local lake and explore country parks where they can climb trees, roll down hills and jump in muddy puddles. n The childminder has undertaken training on how to support children who speak English as an additional language. Consequently, these children are exceptionally well supported. The childminder uses key words in the child's home language to expertly help children to communicate. This, along with the regular reading of familiar stories, helps to swiftly develop children's use of English. n Children's social and emotional development is supported extremely well. The childminder has an excellent rapport with the children. She skilfully uses every interaction as an opportunity to build relationships and develop children's understanding and use of language. Children fondly and repeatedly call the

childminder by her name when they initiate conversations with her. They are extremely confident and self-assured. The childminder provides children with highly nutritious and well-balanced meals and snacks. n The childminder makes sure there is an exceptionally good two-way exchange of information with parents about their child's progress on an ongoing basis. This considerably enhances parent's understanding about how their child's learning can be best supported at home. Parents provide excellent written feedback about the childminder. They write comments, such as 'I could not think more highly about the service my childminder provides'. n The childminder has extraordinarily high aspirations for children's high-quality care and education. She researches current early years guidance on the internet and undertakes regular online training. Furthermore, she shares ideas and best practice with other local childminders. This helps to identify precise and sharply

focussed targets that drive forward ongoing improvements that offer all children optimal challenge and support.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder undertakes regular child protection training. Additionally, she has undertaken further training on less familiar areas of abuse. The childminder is extremely vigilant and very clear about the signs of abuse or neglect and about her responsibility to protect children. She successfully implements a highly comprehensive range of exemplary policies and procedures, which support children's health, safety and well-being. The childminder has stringent infection control measures in place. This includes thorough cleaning regimes, effective handwashing procedures and keeping spaces well ventilated. The childminder thoroughly checks all indoor areas to identify and reduce any possible risks to children. This, and risk assessing all outings off the premises, helps to keep children exceptionally safe and well.
