p.1

The provision is good

Children arrive excited to see the childminder and quickly settle with activities. Children are happy and share warm and close relationships with the childminder and each other. They play well together, sharing resources and taking turns as they use construction to build models. The childminder gets to know the children well and uses this good knowledge to plan activities, which interest and excite them. Children's behaviour is good, and they have a positive attitude to learning.

p.2

The provision is good

Children have a wide range of opportunities to explore outside and benefit from fresh air and regular exercise. They enjoy trips to a country park where they hunt for bugs and insects and explore other types of wildlife. They learn about planting and growing in the childminder's garden and find out about different herbs.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder stayed open during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. However, she did not have any children attending for some of this time. She remained in contact with the children and their families throughout through messages and phone calls. Since the childminder reopened her setting fully, she has focused on supporting children's emotional well-being.

n The childminder observes the children while they play and makes accurate assessments of their development. She plans and implements a broad curriculum to support children in making good progress in all areas of learning. n The childminder works well in partnership with parents. She keeps parents informed about their children's development and finds out about what their children are doing at home. She provides parents with seasonal newsletters to keep them informed about the events that she plans. Parents are very happy with the provision and the progress that their children make. Parents comment that their children 'flourish' in the care of the childminder. n The childminder evaluates and reflects upon her practice to identify areas for development. She has completed training opportunities and watches webinars to increase her knowledge and develop ideas. For example, since the last inspection she has gained more knowledge about child development. She has

introduced different materials and resources to children's play opportunities. This has encouraged children to use their imagination more in play. 6 August 2021 confidently count to 30. However, the childminder misses opportunities for children to begin to use the language of quantities to compare two sets of objects. In addition, for the first part of the morning the television was on, which was an unnecessary distraction for the children while they played. n The childminder gives the children lots of praise. She acknowledges their achievements as they play, which boost their confidence and self-esteem. Children work well together to organise a game with a small car. They all sit on the floor and patiently wait their turn to receive the car as they practise their catching skills. Older children help younger ones draw pictures and make marks to form letters on the whiteboard. n Children manage their personal needs independently. The childminder ensures that children follow good hygiene practices and talks to them about healthy diets to further develop their understanding.

p.2

n Children use their imaginations well. They play with the small world play outside, using small play figures to act out different scenes. They use trowels, sand, and small bricks to make houses. They pretend to make ice creams, find hidden letters in the sand, and identify different shapes of the construction, such as a square and a triangle.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has good knowledge about child protection issues. The childminder knows the signs that indicate a child might be at risk of neglect or abuse. She knows what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. She has kept her safeguarding knowledge up to date, including information to help her recognise wider safeguarding issues. The childminder ensures that she provides a safe environment. She carries out risk assessments on her home and for the outings she takes with children. She talks to the children about how they need to behave when they go out to keep themselves safe.

p.3
