p.2
The provision requires improvement
The childminder does not have high enough expectations for all children. She makes plans for children about what they need to learn next but does not focus on these enough to help children to make the progress they are capable of. Despite this, children are happy and make choices about what they would like to play with from a suitable range of toys and resources. The childminder joins in with children's play. Children are encouraged to develop their speaking and listening skills. They listen with interest to well-read stories. Children giggle as they excitedly join in with action rhymes and songs. They enjoy joining in with craft activities. Children are proud of their achievements and confidently tell the childminder that they are making their finished creations to take home for their parents.

need to do better?
n The childminder assesses children's progress and uses her observations to make some plans for what each child needs to learn next. However, the childminder does not fully support every child's next steps in their learning during their time in her care. For example, when focusing on helping children learn to share, she does not give them the opportunity to practise this skill. This means she does not match her teaching well enough to children's individual learning needs. n Children benefit from daily opportunities to develop their physical skills outdoors, where they enjoy playing on the slide and swing. The childminder helps children to understand the importance of keeping themselves safe. For example, she reminds children of the reason why they should not walk behind the swing when another child is on it. The childminder reminds the children of the importance to stay hydrated during warm weather. However, she does not consistently

encourage the children to follow good handwashing routines to fully promote their good health. n Parents express their satisfaction with the service provided by the childminder. They say that they highly recommend her setting to friends and family. Parents say that they are kept informed about their child's time with the childminder. However, partnership working with parents when children first start is not as effective. For example, the childminder does not gather details about children's abilities or routines. This, on occasion, hinders children's personal development.

23 July 2021 n The childminder has completed various online training courses to keep her knowledge of safeguarding and welfare legislation up to date. She has recently completed training to help her to gain a better understanding of how to manage children's behaviour. She provides children with clear explanations about why certain behaviours are not acceptable. This helps children to learn the rules of good behaviour. n The childminder maintains a safe environment. She makes sure hazards are identified and swiftly removed. For example, cleaning products are stored in cupboards with locks on. She ensures the front door is locked. This means that children are unable to leave the premises unattended and they can play safely in their surroundings. n The childminder supports children's understanding of mathematics. She encourages children to count how many flowers they have glued to their artwork. She encourages children to name the different colours of the flowers
