p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children's safety is not ensured because the childminder and her assistant do not have a suitable understanding of how to identify and manage child protection issues.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children explore the outdoor environment with confidence and interest. Younger children show fascination with balls and beam with enjoyment as they play with them. They grasp them in both hands, roll them forward and then crawl after them. They kneel or pull themselves up to standing as they manoeuvre around the outdoor area. Children listen well to stories and show an interest in books. However, the childminder does not always identify what she wants the children to learn or support them to extend their knowledge and skills. For example, as older children assemble and decorate a pre-cut dinosaur they work quickly through the activity with very little communication. They follow the instructions from the childminder and are not encouraged to try things out for themselves, such as how to attach the different parts.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children listen carefully to reminders about sharing the toys and relay this to other children to resolve any minor disagreements. They take notice of what their friends are doing and show support. For example, they tell each other at snack time that they need to remove the calyx from their strawberry before eating it.

need to do better?

n The childminder and her assistant do not have a suitable knowledge and understanding of child protection issues. They are unfamiliar with the correct procedures to follow in the event of an allegation. They lack knowledge of issues, such as exploitation and the 'Prevent' duty guidance 2015. n All children demonstrate emotional security and attachments with the childminder and her assistant. The childminder ensures that she helps children who are new to the setting to settle and feel comfortable. Children listen to instructions and clearly understand what is expected of them, for example at meal times. n Children have access to a well-organised environment, both indoors and outdoors. The childminder uses children's current interests to inform resources and activities. She plans for experiences that children do not undertake elsewhere. For example, she regularly takes children to the park to feed the

ducks. n The childminder observes children to establish their current stage of development. However, she does not plan her curriculum well enough to ensure it is challenging and identifies what she wants children to learn from the activities. Furthermore, neither her nor her assistant provide consistent support

22 July 2021 during activities to help children to build on what they know already and can do. n The childminder has completed training to improve her knowledge of how to manage children's behaviour since the last inspection. The childminder and her assistant provide clear and consistent reminders of the expectations and meaningful praise to acknowledge children's achievements and efforts. Children listen to and follow instructions and demonstrate an understanding of the routines. However, the childminder has not undertaken professional development opportunities to improve her knowledge of learning and development, to ensure the quality of education is good or better. n Parents express how caring the childminder is and how much their children enjoy attending her setting. The childminder provides parents with a daily handover so they are informed about their children's care and achievements. The childminder also shares information with other settings that children attend,

so that they are kept up to date with children's progress. She encourages parents to share the progress check at age two with relevant professionals to ensure children's needs are met. n The childminder takes appropriate steps to promote children's health. Careful consideration is given to children's safety when they play outdoors during warm weather. The childminder teaches children about the importance of healthy foods. Children take responsibility for their self-care, such as washing their hands before eating.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder and her assistant do not have sufficient knowledge of how to identify and manage concerns about children, or an allegation against an adult. The childminder and her assistant maintain continual communication to ensure children are supervised and their needs are met. The premises are safe and secure. There are effective procedures in place to ensure children's safety when they are asleep.
