p.1

The provision is good

During the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic lockdown, the childminder was very proactive in keeping in touch with families. She checked they were okay when passing their homes and held discussions outdoors. The childminder provided ideas for parents to support their children's learning at home. She also created an innovative video to welcome children back to her setting. Her warm and nurturing personality helps children to settle quickly. Children develop extremely strong attachments to the childminder. They feel safe in her care, are happy and very confident.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's behaviour is superb. Older children show kindness and sensitivity. Younger children delight in playing together from an early age. They play excitedly with ducks in bowls of water and become engrossed in their explorations. The childminder sings songs that help to develop children's understanding of subtraction as the ducks swim away. Younger children concentrate well and delight in holding the water in their hands.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations of children and promotes their independence especially well. Younger children choose their own fruit for snack and learn to make their own sandwiches for lunch. Older children confidently put on their coat and fasten their own shoes. The childminder protects children's privacy during care routines.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder is ambitious for children. She uses themes, children's interests and the seasons to sequence and enrich their learning. Children learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. They show awe and wonder as they eagerly watch the butterfly emerge from the chrysalis in front of them in the butterfly net. Children also enjoy looking for butterflies in their natural surroundings outdoors. The childminder reinforces children's learning through a wide range of story books and information books. n Children learn to lead active and healthy lifestyles from the outset. The childminder encourages them to be physically active and ensures they spend plenty of time outdoors each day. Children take part in challenges, explore the local moors and enjoy walks on the nature trails at local historic country houses. Children also develop their understanding of why drinking plenty of water is important to their health.

p.2

need to do better?

They are very impressed with the effort the childminder makes to understand their children's needs. Parents appreciate the 'fantastic support she provides to families during difficult times'. Parents speak highly of the childminder and state that their 'children are super happy and bubble with excitement' in her care. n The childminder is dedicated to making a difference to children's lives. responsive to babies' and young children's vocalisations. The childminder reinforces and extends their communication and language, introduces new words and sings plenty of songs and rhymes. Children develop good speaking skills and a wide vocabulary. n The childminder has a positive attitude to improving her own practice. She values support from more experienced childminders, accesses training courses and carries out research. The childminder develops strong relationships with other settings where children's care is shared. The childminder supports children who speak English as an additional language particularly well and reinforces their understanding in English and in the languages they speak at home. Children learn about each other's differences from an early age and thrive in the inclusive environment the childminder provides.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure understanding of how to keep children safe from harm. She has clear procedures in place to follow should she have concerns about children's welfare. Additionally, the childminder searches out information on the local authority safeguarding partnership website and uses the knowledge gained to keep her policies and procedures updated. She ensures that parents are aware of her policies and provides these in different ways to meet their individual requirements. The childminder maintains a safe environment. She carries out regular fire drills with children to help them understand what to do in an emergency. The childminder also protects children's identity in photographs.
