This provision does not meet requirements

n Although the childminder has no children on roll, she does work alongside another childminder who does have children on roll. The childminder does not understand how to help children learn and develop in order to reach their full potential. The childminder does not understand how to use the curriculum effectively to support children's individual needs. As a result, children do not make the progress they are capable of. n Risk assessments are not used effectively to promote children's safety. The childminder and other adults working with children do not always supervise children well enough to ensure they are safe. For example, play equipment is sometimes placed at an inappropriate level for younger children to use. This led to a child almost pulling a large toy onto themselves. n The childminder and her co-childminder have a current knowledge of safeguarding matters. They know and understand the procedures to follow if

they have any concerns about children's welfare. However, some of the assistants do not have a good awareness of what to do should they suspect an adult working with children has harmed a child. Furthermore, during the inspection, an assistant was observed to use their mobile telephone close to where children were being cared for. This compromises children's safety. n The childminder's systems for supporting and appraising staff are not yet embedded into practice. She does not identify gaps in their teaching or offer support or coaching to improve their practice. As a result, adults working with children do not always offer activities that are targeted to the individual needs of children. n Children's independence is good. They pour their own drinks, use the toilet unaided and try and put on their own coats before going outside. n Children show a good awareness of safety. For example, when walking with the

childminder to collect older children from school, young children know to hold the pushchair and that they need to move from one side to the other when changing sides of the road. n Behaviour and attitudes are good. Older children will eagerly help their friend to put on their coat. Children listen and respond to instructions from the childminder, for example, when they are asked to put toys and equipment away. Children share and take turns and are praised for this.

p.2

This provision does not meet requirements

There were no children present when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children present, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states whether the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

Inspection activities

n This was the first routine inspection the setting received since the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic began. The inspector discussed the impact of the pandemic with the childminder and has taken that into account in their evaluation of the setting. n A joint observation of an activity was completed and the childminder and inspector discussed the quality of teaching. n The childminder and the inspector had discussions to help the inspector understand how the early years provision and the curriculum are organised. n The inspector observed the quality of the interactions between the childminder, her co-childminder, assistants and children, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their views.
