p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a relaxed and safe environment for children. Children have fun with the activities on offer and the childminder is clear in her aim to nurture children's confidence. The childminder makes sure that children can access their favourite activities, such as water play, and enhances children's play by offering further resources as part of their games. Conversations between the childminder and the children support language development, for example, the childminder uses and repeats new words. Children are learning to be independent. They confidently put on shoes, cut banana for snack, pour water from a small jug and wash their hands. The children understand the importance of washing their hands and eating healthy snacks. Children benefit from a structured but flexible routine each day. This includes opportunities outside for physical play, such as running, jumping, swinging and sliding. The children are encouraged to listen to

sounds like birds and planes in the sky. They learn to observe their surroundings, for example to notice numbers on buses and words on shop fronts. They visit their local community to feed the ducks and look at trees.

p.2

The provision is good

Due to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the childminder has not been able to access group activities, or to mix with other childminders locally. However, she has recently joined the library and hopes to attend activities there as restrictions lift. The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour and explains any rules clearly, such as the need to wear shoes outside. She models respectful language, such as please and thank you for the children.

n The childminder supports the families she works with well. She keeps children's parents informed daily about activities and learning taking place. Parents are very appreciative of the work the childminder does. For example, she has given parents the confidence to transition back to work. The childminder shares learning that the family can do at home. n The childminder offers a broad learning programme, with clear aims for what she wants the children to know. Her focus is on developing children's confidence and curiosity. n The childminder is respectful in her approach to personal care, allowing children to be independent while being there to offer support. She encourages children to share ideas, including making some decisions about the outings they take each day. These activities help children to enjoy exciting experiences and to meet different people in the community. n The childminder is reflective of her own practice, wanting to make improvements

in what she provides, including adding more natural resources for children to explore. The childminder places an emphasis on including all children in her

9 June 2021 provision. Her awareness of how to keep children safe at all times is good. As the pandemic restrictions lift, the childminder wants to further enhance her knowledge of children's learning and development. n The childminder introduces mathematical language to the children and helps with early skills in maths. Children show a sense of achievement when counting numbers to 10 during a matching game. Children name simple shapes while cutting with dough and are beginning to use new words, such as circle, square and oval. n The childminder supports children's communication and language development well. She repeats longer words back to the children correctly to help them with pronunciation. n The childminder shares her enthusiasm of stories and reading books together, the favourite being 'The Gingerbread Man'. Learning from this story was extended by making gingerbread and children enjoy repeating the phrase 'You

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder is aware of signs of abuse, neglect and failure to thrive. She knows the procedures, including who to contact within the local authority if she were concerned about a child. She has engaged in online safeguarding training about various child protection issues and has updated her safeguarding training. She has an appropriate way of recording and sharing any accidents with parents. There is a clear procedure for fire safety and identified exit points in the house. The childminder keeps the house and garden area free from obvious hazards, with boundaries in place for private areas within the house.
