The provision is outstanding
The childminder is extremely professional and passionate about the work he does. He and his co-childminder work extremely effectively together to meet children's individual needs and to provide excellent support for their emotional development and confidence. Children have very strong attachments and relationships with them. The childminder has a very caring ethos that puts the children at the centre of everything he does. Parents praise the extremely thoughtful support the childminder has provided during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The childminder has been inventive in maintaining contact with children during the pandemic, for example by providing 'Beehive TV' story time videos and personal messages. This connection has proved to be essential for families throughout periods of national lockdown.
p.2
The provision is outstanding
Children demonstrate exceptional behaviour. They listen respectfully and respond to instructions from an early age. They display high levels of confidence in activities and social situations. Children develop excellent independence and self-help skills. The childminder is skilled at supporting children to have a go and offers them lots of encouragement and praise. Children persevere and try again even when they encounter difficulties. Their determination means that they learn new skills, such as to put on their coats and fasten their zips by themselves. They smile proudly when they achieve these tasks. They develop highly positive attitudes towards learning and gain an extensive range of skills. This supports children very effectively to be ready for the next stage of their education.

need to do better?
n The childminder works closely with parents and key persons at other settings that children attend, to ensure that there is a consistent approach to the support children receive. He meticulously outlines any gaps in children's development. He plans highly stimulating activities that skilfully link to children's identified needs and current interests, to ignite their curiosity and motivate them effectively. Children make substantial and sustained progress across all areas of learning, and they are working well above expectations for their age in many aspects of their learning. n Children have rich experiences to help them to improve their hand-to-eye coordination and muscle strength, which helps to support their early writing skills. They spend considerable periods exploring and mixing a wide variety of interesting materials. The childminder gives children time to test out their ideas and have a go but is close by to offer useful tips and techniques if needed.

29 June 2021 communication. Children listen intently to stories which are linked to their current interests in insects. The childminder extends this further as they watch and discuss the insects they have as pets in the playroom. Children proudly share their knowledge of the life cycle of caterpillars. They talk about the different foods that insects eat and different types of butterflies. The childminder supports the children to successfully find a monarch butterfly in a reference book. He explains how to use the index and together they match the butterfly to the one in the story. Children learn to use books for a purpose and as a source of information, which develops their early literacy skills very effectively. n The childminder implements comprehensive systems which he embeds into his practice to lead a first-class childminding provision. He undertakes thorough self- evaluation of all aspects of his provision. The childminder is highly reflective. He

is exceptionally enthusiastic and keen to continually progress his skills and the opportunities he provides for the children. He has conscientiously undertaken training to lead woodwork sessions with young children. He has also learned early sign language to help support children's communication and close gaps in their learning as quickly as possible. n The childminder interacts exceptionally well with children and takes advantage of spontaneous learning opportunities that arise as children play. Children readily explore and follow their ideas, spraying coloured water onto the paving outside. The childminder skilfully encourages their observations of changes and introduces new concepts, such as gravity, to expertly ignite children's curiosity further. Children are fascinated to discover and learn about life growing in the childminder's wildlife pond. They learn about mosquito larvae and relate this to

Safeguarding
The childminder clearly explains what action he would take if he has any concerns about a child's care, safety and welfare. He has a very good understanding of safeguarding procedures and wider safeguarding issues, and updates his knowledge through training. The childminder carefully considers all areas of his home and garden to ensure that children can play and explore safely. He understands the importance of children learning to recognise and manage risks themselves and introduces these essential skills to children through highly stimulating activities. He regularly takes children out into the local woodlands for inspiring and challenging outdoor learning experiences and leads exciting woodwork sessions in his garden with real tools.
